CALL FOR ENTRIES | Materials: Hard + Soft International Contemporary Craft Competition & Exhibition

The Greater Denton Arts Council announces the opening of its 2017 Call for Entries for the 30th Annual Materials: Hard + Soft Contemporary Craft Exhibition. This exhibition celebrates the evolving field of contemporary craft and the innovation of artists who push the boundaries of their chosen media. Recognized as one of the premier craft exhibitions in the United States, this year we are thrilled to be partnering with the National Endowment for the Arts to expand this national exhibition to now include international artists. Approximately 70 works will be selected for exhibition by juror JoAnn Edwards, Executive Director of the Museum of Craft and Design in San Francisco, California. Of the works selected, Juror Awards in amounts of $1000, $750, $500, and $250 will be awarded.

The Greater Denton Arts Council announces the opening of its 2016 Call for Entries for the 29th annual Materials: Hard & Soft National Contemporary Craft Competition and Exhibition. Recognized as one of the premier craft exhibitions in the country, Materials: Hard & Soft began in 1987 and was originally initiated by area artist Georgia Leach Gough.

The exhibition celebrates the evolving field of contemporary craft and the remarkable creativity and innovation of artists who push the boundaries of their chosen media. Drawing hundreds of applications from across the United States each year, approximately 70 works will be selected for exhibition by our 2016 Juror, Elizabeth Kozlowski.

As the curator of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Kozlowski has over 12 years of curatorial and gallery experience with a specialty in contemporary ceramics. Of the works selected, Juror Awards in the amounts of $1,000, $750, $500 and $250 will be presented.

Do you work creatively in three-dimensions? Join the third annual “sculptechular” exhibition hosted by Frisco Arts!

  • By July 22, submit a written, photographed, or drawn proposal for a LARGE scale installation or free-standing sculpture in one of the special events rooms from 9.8-9.20
  • By August 10, submit images of smaller scale work for the Frisco Art Gallery to be exhibited 8.25-10.1

Arts in the Square – Last Call for Entries! 1/23/15 DEADLINE

Arts in the Square is an outdoor juried fine arts festival hosted by Frisco Square in collaboration with the Frisco Independent School District, with proceeds going to Frisco Family Services and the Frisco Education Foundation.

Frisco Square would like to see 500 applicants, although only 120 artists will be accepted.

Here are the highlights:

– cash prizes for artists participating in the festival: a Best-in-Show ($500) and Juror’s Choice ($500).

-Artists can submit work in one of 10 categories, including fine arts/graphics, pottery, painting, textiles, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, photography, wood, and miscellaneous.

– Last year more than 20,000 people attended.

-DFW area teachers and professors are allowed to share a booth

-$25 application fee

-$325 booth fee (10’x10′ space)

-artist keeps proceeds from sales but must comply with state comptroller for all taxes

“sculptechular 2014” – Call for all things 3D! Deadline 8/22

Frisco Arts presents the 2nd annual “sculptechular” in the Frisco Art Gallery (smaller works) and the Special Events Center (installations) at the Frisco Discovery Center, 8004 N. Dallas Pkwy, Frisco, TX 75034. This includes a one-month juried art exhibition from 9.3-10.4, a two-week juried installations exhibition from 9.3-9.13, and a two-day spectacle with demos, a panel discussion, and reception on 9.6 and 9.7.

A “Most sculptechular” best of show award will be given to the winner during the reception on Sunday, September 7th, from 2-4PM.

“Salvaged” Art Show Reception + Panel Discussion NEXT Wed, April 9

Interested in artwork made from salvaged materials and the artistic process of creating them?

Come on out to see the “Salvaged” exhibition in the Frisco Art Gallery at the Frisco Discovery Center, 8004 N. Dallas Pkwy, Frisco, TX 75034. The reception and panel discussion happens Wed, April 9,  from 7-9PM. The panel will be comprised of:

  • Karen Dodson, one of the jurors for the “Salvaged” exhibition and a local artist who does murals and constructs small robots out of found objects
  • Jody Wissing, another participating local artist in the “Salvaged” exhibition, member of Frisco’s Public Art Board, and explorer of abandoned towns and buildings
  • Elizabeth Salmon,  another participating artist in the “Salvaged” exhibition, and a high-schooler at Wakeland in Frisco ISD

Participating artist Janine Maupin will also give a brief gallery talk and the “Best of Show” winner will be announced. FREE and open to the public.
