The Mission of Cowboy True is to educate the region about the honor, art, and beauty of the cowboy’s daily life. Wichita Falls TX

Cowboy True is a celebration to honor working cowboys and the artwork that comes from their daily lives. During the weekend of  April 13-14, 2018, juried cowboy artists from around the nation will be featured at the J.S. Bridwell Ag Center to display their unique works derived from cowboy life. Categories include: bits, spurs, buckles, jewelry,  saddles, boots, trappings/gear, photography, paintings, drawings, sculptures, woodworking, and cowboy cartoons. Events for Cowboy True include Friday night Preview Party featuing a world champion chuckwagon and live entertainment by Jake Hooker and The Outsiders, Saturday daytime activities and Ranch Rodeo (exhibit open to the public) and Saturday night dinner, live auction, and entertainment. All proceeds go to Arts Council to assist with nonprofit programming and mission fulfillment.

The Woodlands, Texas is an award-winning, master-planned community of more than 100,000 residents with a strong history of public art. The Woodlands Arts Council invites national and international artists to apply for the next installation of the Woodlands Art Bench outdoor permanent collection. The call is for Six (6) separate Art Benches.

Sites can be viewed at: Bench Sites  Walk from The Woodlands Mall to Town Green Park and enjoy the beauty and practicality of the one-of-a-kind Art Benches designed by local, national and international artists.

Three (3) finalists will be chosen for each bench in a preliminary selection process and will receive a $300 stipend. One (1) artist from these finalists will be chosen to construct a bench, receiving a stipend of $8,000. Artists are encouraged to work conceptually with the chosen site and underwriter’s vision. The Woodlands is an aesthetically unique district, with its natural landscapes and waterway backdrop. We challenge the artists to conceptualize work that can highlight their own vision in conjunction with both the underwriter and these unique chosen sites.

Calling all Texas artists! Want to see your artwork featured on a bottle of wine? Enter the 2018 Messina Hof Wine Label Competition! The winning piece will be proudly displayed on a special run of Messina Hof wine bottles, plus cash prizes for the top three artists. This competition is open to all artists over the age of 21 residing in Texas. Entries may be any 2D medium including but not limited to: watercolor, oil, pastel, pencil, acrylic, collage, multimedia, and digital art.

Messina Hof takes great pride in making wine with Texas Soul – so this year we want to see what the “Heart and Soul of Texas” looks like. When searching for inspiration, think of what Texas means to you. What about Texas has filled your heart and soul? Whether it be late nights at the rodeo, picking wildflowers, or scootin’ across the dance hall, put our grand state on canvas and create a masterpiece!

After Dark 6 is a show celebrating darkness and the varied reactions emblematic to this subject matter…nighttime, dark humor, dark fantasies, dark matter, etc. Greg Moon Art of Taos hosts this national show with guest jurors Matt Kennedy (La Luz de Jesus Gallery, Los Angeles) and Stuart Ashman (Center for Contemporary Arts, Santa Fe). The San Antonio Tricentennial, through the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture, seeks proposals from community artists and art agencies for pop-up art projects to occur during 2018, the year of the city’s 300th anniversary. The intent of the 300 TriArt Program is to inspire a diverse range of art throughout San Antonio and Bexar County that reflects local culture and history. Through these temporary and permanent projects, locals and visitors alike will experience a mixture of art in a variety of expressions that reflects the vibrant pulse of the community. “The 300 TriArt Program will produce a diversity of art in our community that is accessible and open to the public,” said Faith Radle of Three Chord Media and member of the Tricentennial Commission. “We encourage both seasoned and emerging artists to embrace the tricentennial anniversary and create expressive works that showcase the culture, history, and unique beauty of San Antonio and Bexar County.” All art types (visual, literary, performance, filmmaking, etc.) and media will be considered for the program, and each project should be site-specific for a location open to the community. Arts partners are encouraged to implement their projects in non-traditional art venues to highlight unique and creative spaces in San Antonio. The projects that are ultimately selected will be reflective of the city and county’s rich heritage, taking into account our 300 years of history, and encouraging active community participation. The 300 TriArt Program will incite creative passion in the community and create a cultural legacy that commemorates the tricentennial anniversary. Individual awards granted through the 300 TriArt Program range from $1,000 to $20,000, with a total of $300,000 available to support local artistic talent. Proposal submissions are due on Friday, April 14, 2017 by 10 a.m. CST.
