Bivins Gallery is pleased to present Ricardo Paniagua: Miracles, Prophecies, and Revelations from December 9, 2017 through January 20, 2018. Ricardo Paniagua has become known as a visual artist for his trompe l’oeil constructions and dream-inspired canvases. The descendent of generations of master tile artisans, Paniagua’s creativity manifests itself in precise geometry and does not rely on a catalogue of historical art references. Rhythm and form unite his geometric sculptures, wall sculptures, and tondos with the deep spirituality of many of his canvas paintings. The solo exhibition will open at Bivins Gallery with a reception on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 5 to 8pm. Complimentary valet parking will be provided, as well as validated self-parking.

The Enigma of Divination – works on paper by Dennis Gonzalez with music by Ataraxia

The Grackle Art Gallery is honored to present a solo exhibition of works on paper by Dennis Gonzalez on May 14th. He will be performing with his new group Ataraxia and displaying his new works on paper.

His artwork is a mix of cultural icons and mystical symbols presented with vibrant colors on black backgrounds which create a rich tableau that appears to contain ancient messages.

Ataraxia’s premier performance at the Benbrook Public Library’s “Music Monday” was an enlightened and brilliant masterwork of Eastern-tinged jazz. The trio consists of Dennis Gonzalez (trumpet, gongs, percussion and vocals), Drew Phelps (contrabass and percussion) and Jagath Lakpriya (tabla). The music is spacious in quality and flows with Eastern rhythms.

4621 El Campo, Fort Worth, Saturday, May 14th, 7-11pm, 817-615-0681, Free.

Erik Skjolsvik – Meditations from the Median opens Jan. 23 at Gallery 414

Meditations from the Median by Erik Skjolsvik

January 23 through February 21

Opening Reception on January 23, 6:00 – 9:00PM

Gallery 414 is pleased to announce Meditations from the Median, a one person exhibition featuring non-representational paintings and drawings by Erik Skjolsvik. The exhibition opens on Saturday, January 23, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, with the artist in attendance; and the reception is free and open to the public.

Using ink on paper and ink on Kozo paper adhered to canvas or linen, Skjolsvik renders calligraphic forms in repetition until he intuitively halts. The end product reflects controlled chaos or possibly a quiet spiritual quest. Whatever the interpretation, the titles may reference feelings of past or present, theory of mental inhibitions or ambitions and unpopular culture.  The non-representational forms are not conscious abstractions of anything that he conceives of through premeditated processes; they are rather like documented feelings or behaviors created with a few simple materials.

Meditations from the Median will highlight mostly recent works from 2014 and 2015. One of the galleries will be devoted to the same body of work that spans twenty years. The older work will be the tiny journal like drawings created all over the country during his travels as a preparator for museums.
