Paul Walden refers to “Apparent Chaos” when viewing his paintings in a limited sense. They appear chaotic but the subconscious elements create order and harmony within the composition. “The repetition of the painting & the layering techniques I have developed are the tools that allow the perceptions of an underlying order to emerge.”

Mark Whitmarsh creates relationships that excite the eye through exploration of light, color and space.  “As I build layers of color, a personal iconography evolves on the painted surface.”

Tony Saladino‘s use of color and subject matter make for beautifully executed works that are not only pleasing to the eye but thought-provoking as well. “I try to use each medium’s scale and characteristics to its advantage, to give my imagination an avenue which can explore truth on a two dimensional plane.

Dennis Johnson‘s paintings do not have to relate to anything or follow rules. It simply invites us to think, to reflect, to open our mind to the possibility that all art has to do is make us feel.

Kent Wallis Solo Exhibition at Southwest Gallery Dec. 10

Southwest Gallery cordially invites you to meet
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10TH from 1-5pm and experience his latest creations!

Kent’s superbly executed paintings blend the schools of romantic realism and impressionism. Self-taught, his develoment as an artist was instinctive, his use of color and composition lend themselves to an incredible beauty which reflects intensity, and yet, a gentle inspirational calm and strength. “His impressionistic technique lends a spontaneous touch while his palette of bold, vivid color creates an atmosphere of joy. He defines impressionism as ‘catching the fleeting moment in a landscape and putting down quickly on the canvas the impressions that first come to you.’ Though romantic subjects, rich colors, and spontaneous technique are his vehicles for conveying joy, its source is ultimately the artist, himself. On any given day he can be seen painting in time to Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” or joking heartily with one of his children who has nestled into the reclining chair in his studio. Ultimately, the uplifting perspective of his paintings is the harmonious combination of each of these elements coupled with his unceasing drive to capture on canvas the best life has to offer.”

PleinAairSW LOGO

Plein Air Southwest Salon is a juried plein air competition, exhibition and sale sponsored by the Outdoor Painters Society and showcased each April at Southwest Gallery in Dallas, Texas. The Salon features plein air paintings from the “best of the best” painters working today.
Plein Air Southwest Salon has earned the reputation as one of the premier events of Spring. The Outdoor Painters Society sponsors the event to promote an appreciation for the process of painting “en plein air” which is French for “in open air”. Most works are completed in a single painting session, painted outdoors on location and are characterized by the bold use of color, design and the freshness of paint application.

For the 11th year, Plein Air Southwest Salon 2016 will be hosted by Southwest Gallery at 4500 Sigma Rd, Dallas, TX 75244. 88 artists representing 19 states will be exhibiting, plus the juror Marc Hanson and guest artist Lori Putnam.

Yikes — it’s true!
We’ve lost our lease and will be moving again in late October.
Though we’re not looking forward to the move itself, we’re very excited about both of our new locations (yes, two of them!) and think you will be as well.
But first things first…. We don’t want to move all this stuff, so we’re having a BIG SALE.
Read on for more about the plans for our transition, the sale, the holidays, and moving forward.

LAndscape Series, Red Rose with Sunflowers by Shawn Messenger
So this is the plan…
The last week of October we will move to our new digs. (Didn’t we just do this last year?!)  The studio is moving to a new workshop/retail space in Richardson.  The gallery will be moving close by our current location in North Dallas.  (Yes, we’re splitting up — but we’re not breaking up!)
We plan to complete both moves quickly and be back open by the 1st of November.  Classes and production will resume in the new studio space and we’ll be all geared up for the holidays in the new gallery.
If you need something from us during the week of the move, do give us a call and we’ll do our best to get you what you need.

Where Are We Going?
And The New Gallery Will Be…
The Gallery will be moving in with our long time friends at Southwest Gallery, located just a hop skip and a jump away in North Dallas near Inwood & Spring Valley.
Located in the North Dallas Design District, Southwest Gallery is one of Dallas’ oldest and largest art galleries, offering Contemporary, Western, Impressionist, Traditional & Southwest art as well as sculpture, bronzes and antiques.
Bob Malenfant and his staff are remodeling a portion of their 16,000 square foot facility to make us a fabulous new 2,300 square foot art glass gallery space.
We plan to complete our move in one week and will be up and running in the new gallery by the 1st of November.
Lot’s of ornaments and other goodies are on their way to arrive in plenty of time for your holiday gift buying!
After the move our new gallery hours will be Tuesday – Saturday 9 – 6, Sundays 1 – 5.  We will be closed on Mondays.
The new gallery address will be…
Kittrell Riffkind Art Glass
at Southwest Gallery
4500 Sigma Rd (at Welch)
Dallas, TX 75244
We look forward to seeing you there!

As with the gallery, we plan to complete our move in one week and will be up and running in the new studio by the 1st of November.
After the move our new studio hours will be 10 – 6 Tuesday – Saturday.  We will be closed Sunday and Monday.
