LAYNE JOHNSON: “CHASING THE LIGHT” SOLO SHOW reception March 1 & demo March 3

MARCH FEATURED ARTIST
LAYNE JOHNSON | “CHASING THE LIGHT” SOLO SHOW

March brings landscape artist Layne Johnson to the gallery with his solo show and demonstration. Dutch Art Gallery will host a Meet the Artist reception during our March First Thursday Event as well as a demonstration by the artist that Saturday. You can get to know Layne a little better by reading our Artist Spotlight article, but be sure to come by the gallery to meet him and see his work in person, including new pieces. Solo Show on view through March 31st.

A very focused and driven artist, Layne set his sights on making art his career early in life and squarely hit the bullseye. You’ll find him painting on nearly a daily basis though he does “try to take weekends off”. Inspired by the painters of the Hudson River School, Layne’s work is described as a blend of Luminism, Classical Realism with the added touch of American Impressionism. Having transitioned from an earlier hyper-realistic style, his looser painting technique is still quite detailed and depicts light in the landscape skillfully. His primary goal is to capture the beauty and serenity of a particular location to create a “sense of place” and an emotional connection to it. He wants the viewer to be reminded to slow down, take a breath and appreciate the beauty that’s right in front of them.

Photography Exhibit: And They Say Of Her Woman| Angelika Ejtel

Angelika_Ejtel_On The Edge of Passing_PROM_pic 5

The Fort Worth Community Arts Center is pleased to announce the opening reception for self-portrait photographer Angelika Ejtel’s exhibition “And They Say Of Her Woman”.

Inspired by the poetry of a famous Polish poet H.  Poswiatowska, in this exhibition of self-portraits, Angelika Ejtel integrates the images that belong to her most feminine works. They encompass the motifs of dark love, never-ending longing and hidden desires. Woman and her intimate world(s) portrayed in the poems of Poswiatowska, takes the face and body of the artist in her photographs. This is just a tiny study of what womanhood is in its broad spectrum of meanings.

Angelika uses herself as a subject for her images. She considers her photographic creation as a poetic experience in which she drowns and infuses herself and, as a result, it gives her the feeling that she is reborn with each portrait into a new being. Although, all of her photographs are self-portraits, they shouldn’t be necessarily read as self-presentations, rather they should be revealed as the multiplicity of “selves” available to one individual. To put it succinctly, her attitude towards the self is more of an exploratory journey between an awareness of self and an unawareness of some aspects of oneself.

The exhibition will be on view from March 4th through March 22nd, 2017.

Please, join us at ART 7 Gallery in Fort Worth, TX for a complementary reception, and meet the artist on Thursday, March 9th from 6 to 8 PM.

Rebecca Zook’s Earth & Sky Solo Show. The clouds and grasses of Texas

earthandskyshow

Texas artist Rebecca Zook’s Earth and Sky solo show featuring the clouds and grasses of Texas officially opens Saturday, September 24th during the city of Granary’s monthly Last Saturday Gallery Night. The artist will be present to meet and talk with attendees from 5-8pm at the Dora Lee Langdon Center.

Peace. Beauty. Light.

Three aspects that Texas artist Rebecca Zook consciously incorporates into her acrylic paintings. As a native Texan, she grew up with an appreciation of the unique beauty that Texas offers. Rebecca’s connection with nature is something that’s remained a part of her throughout her life and this love of the landscape is expressed through each brushstroke.
“I’m drawn to Texas’ plentiful native grasses in particular. Watching the wind weave patterns through them and the gentle swaying provide me with a much needed calm. I stand among them and am reminded of the ocean. Great waves roll across the fields. Seed heads catch the sun and glow like breaking spray.”
The Texas sky also holds great fascination for Rebecca. She has photographed clouds for close to 10 years, amassing a huge collection of source material with the intent of creating a series of paintings. She finally began that project in late 2015.
“If you stop and watch the sky for any length of time, you realize how quickly it transforms itself. Clouds spring to life, change shape and dissipate right before your eyes. Sunrises and sunsets are the most dramatic. Almost second by second the colors grow and fade. My paintings capture one brief moment of that perpetually changing beauty.”
“Earth and Sky” is a body of work that is a true labor of love for the artist.
Rebecca’s acrylic technique often involves many overlapping layers of thin washes of color. She finds this better conducive to capturing the unique qualities of light. She prefers to paint mainly smaller works 18” x 24” and under and primarily uses gessoed masonite boards she prepares herself. You can follow Rebecca on Facebook to view the in progress photos of many of her paintings.

Earth and Sky will run through October 26th.
