Existentialism: The Art of Jonathan Ramirez

12916074_10153920302835469_6143854118196636301_o

‘Existentialism’ is a solo exhibit featuring the original works of Jonathan Ramirez. Please join us for an opening reception on Saturday, April 16 from 6:00-10:00 pm, during the Dallas Midtown Artwalk.

A note from the Artist:

I explore the process of death in both the human body and spirit. My work approaches the concept of human existence; the idea that our human forms come from the earth and return at death. Life and death exist simultaneously, and neither is to be more feared or celebrated than the other.

Human identity found solely in the physical bodies humans possess and material items used as social markers, run the risk of being rubbed out and dusted away. Human identity is found in the spirit and memories of the being, that they persist after death and decay.

“I’ve always been afraid to die, but I think I’m more afraid to live…”
– Jonathan Ramirez

SLANT gallery is located on the second level in the west wing of Dallas Midtown (Valley View) at 13331 Preston Rd. (LBJ & Preston).
Exhibit will remain on display through Friday, May 13.

Slant_LLC
If you were taught that you should not talk politics or religion in polite conversation, this exhibit is your chance to speak your mind. With intentional emphasis on ‘For All’ – this exhibit is geared to provide the community with artwork that confronts injustices and considers justices found in our modern world. In an age of social media, satellite, and on sight journalism, we are consistently bombarded with news and views of impactful events. We want to provide the community with a common-ground viewing opportunity that will encourage internal and external dialogue and contemplation on current events taking place locally, globally, and far beyond our borders.

Because ALL lives matter, we are looking for art that reflects the theme and considers the world’s poor, weak, hungry, the radicals, religious, and refugees, human rights, slavery, political views, movers, shakers, spin doctors, givers, takers, lovers, haters, activists, instigators, victims, voters, advocates, promoters, confrontations, concerns, injustices, zealots, protests, the blessed, suppressed, and unaddressed, welfare, war torn, well-being, misunderstood, fleeing, agreeing, and disagreeing, lawful, illegal, violent, peaceful, freedoms, concerned citizens, and governments.

Call for Entry – Compulsions

compulsions

A compulsion is a repetitive, excessive activity or mental exercise that a person performs in an attempt to avoid distress.  Compulsive behavior is why we take giant steps over the sidewalk seams, because no one wants to step on a crack and break their mother’s back.  A compulsion is an irresistible urge to act, often repetitive in nature, regardless of rational reason or logic.

We are searching for art entries that reflect particular compulsions, the nature of compulsive behavior, or art that may prove to be compulsive in design due to the artist’s own impulsive nature or repetitive process. To learn more about entry guidelines and deadline visit slantx.weebly.com
