Schedule & Speakers for ART AID EXPO 2017 on July 15

The Art Council of Fort Worth & the Fort Worth Community Arts Center are proud to present the inaugural annual Art Aid Expo 2017 for artists and arts organizations. Demonstrations and seminars in 9,000 square feet of contemporary galleries will be geared towards artists, art non-profits and other creative professionals highlighting the diverse support services available. Featured organizations and professionals will present their expertise through a variety of workshops and seminars helping artists to learn how to sustain a living in the arts.

This one day event will occur on Saturday, July 15th, 2017. Presale tickets are available for $15 or $25 at the door. Active TAC Member tickets are $10.00.

Michael O’Keefe will be showing recent drawings, paintings and sculptures in an upcoming solo exhibition at Valley House Gallery that opens Feb. 20th.

Considering the Artist Seminar  An established artist will be invited to share his or her insights into the Figure Drawing motif. The sessions will be an opportunity for participants to become acquainted with various and different approaches to working from the model. These sessions will begin with the invited artist giving a brief presentation, with images of his or her work, that explains the way in which he or she approaches the observation-based drawing situation. The artist will, for instance, discuss his or her choice of pose, length of pose, materials, size of drawing, vocabulary and types and degrees of abstractions employed. The presentation will be followed by three hours of drawing where participants draw alongside the invited artist.

3 day workshop investigating principles of design that apply to all 2 dimensional visual art forms. This workshop will involve fun hands-on explorations, lectures and discussion, offering insight into important questions and concerns of visual form.

“Texture and Color”

January 22nd, 6:00 – 8:00pm, January 23rd, 12:00 – 3:00pm, January 24th, 12:00 – 3:00pm

The O’Keefe Studio Center is very proud to host a talk by Stephen Ross, recently deemed “The NorthPark Historian”.  Formerly the Curator of Education at The Nasher Sculpture Center, Mr. Ross has joined with NorthPark Center to review the archives and organize materials so that the incredible story of the shopping center over the past 50 years could be shared with the public.  In this upcoming lecture Mr. Ross will share his knowledge of this very interesting history and how art has been a critical consideration of various aspects of the development of the shopping center.

Come join us!  Wine and snacks will be served and it is sure to be an interesting talk.


This week Sedrick Huckaby will host the “Considering The Artist Seminar” at The O’Keefe Studio Center.  This session is full, but there are still a few spots left for the other exciting sessions!

Sculptural Abstraction Seminar
Instructor: Michael O’Keefe
Explore ideas of sculptural abstraction, develop a specific sculpture vocabulary and execute a finished sculpture using that vocabulary. A great intro to sculpture or advanced exploration of sculptural abstraction. Participants will work in clay, plaster or with found objects.

Anatomy for Artists
Instructor: Michael O’Keefe
6 sessions exploring human anatomy as it is relevant to the visual arts, and figurative arts, in particular. Participants will explore the “parts” of the body, relationships within the body, the actions of the body, schematic possibilities, etc. Most sessions will involve lecture, demo, drawing time and informative exercises.

Watercolor Workshop

Ideal for the individual wanting to explore the wonderful medium of watercolor. Gain insights into the material that will allow you to work freely and intelligently.
