SHARON ZIGROSSI: demo April 19 on Making Hub Caps Into Artwork

Meeting of Artists ‘Round Texas

SUNDAY, April 19, 2015, 2pm., Rowlett Community Centre, 5300 Main St., Rowlett

Making Hub Caps Into Artwork!

Sharon Zigrossi is an artist who incorporates found objects into her work. Her Blooming Hub Caps are wheel covers and hub caps that have been rescued from the side of the road and given a 2nd life as unique pieces of art. As a lifelong recycler Sharon

repurposes bottlecaps, plastic lids, buttons, corks and other things we often throw away into her works of art.␣

Her company slogan is “Recycling Trash into Flowering Treasures”. As an artist, Sharon has always loved painting flowers and eventually, she turned the found hub caps into beautiful flowers, which in turn also became other types of art objects and she evolved her art. She finds inspiration in her own garden, at work for a landscape design company and as a Dallas County Master Gardener. She has a BS in Design degree from Buffalo State College.␣

Sharon Zigrossi and her Blooming Hub Caps have been featured in the Dallas Morning News, Preston Hollow People and Preston Hollow Advocate newspapers. For more examples of Sharonís work visit: Facebook.com/BloomingHubCaps and etsy.com/bloominghubcaps.␣

We ask everyone to bring a favorite snack to share. Invite your spouse, a relative, a friend, a partner. Guests are always welcome, and if you are not a member yet, we would love for you to join our creative group. For more information, visit the club website at; www.artistsroundtx.org (you can download a membership form), visit the club’s facebook page, or email Terri Blankinship at; terri.blankinship@gmail.com.

Robin Ragin Recycled Art Demo Sept. 23

Found In The Street Series by Robin Ragin

The featured artist at the September meeting of the Irving Art Association will be Robin Ragin. She will do a presentation on her ongoing series, “Found In The Streets:  Smashed Cans” This is a group of smashed aluminum beverage cans that she finds flattened by traffic in streets and alleys and parking lots. Robin then paints them with acrylics to create wacky clowns and various funny or odd characters…..sort of her own recycling project.

The Sept. 23rd meeting of the Irving Art Association will be held at 7pm at Jaycee Park Center for the Arts. Visitors are welcome. Directions.

Robin is a local artist who has participated in many group exhibitions at local galleries, including the MAC, Ro2 ART,  the Fort Worth Community Arts Center, 500X Gallery, etc.. She recently had a solo exhibit “Robin Ragin:  Homage to a Mentor” at the MAC in 2013. She served a long-term apprenticeship with David McManaway, who was a powerful mentor and remarkable friend. In her words: “It was the confluence of these gifted people that created the artist that I am today.  They are responsible for giving me the tools to do this work.  I just keep the brushes clean.” For more about the artist see her website: http://www.robinragin.com/.

Lorraine Glessner’s Markings opens Oct. 25 at the Encaustic Center

The Encaustic Center proudly presents
Lorraine Glessner
Markings: the found wood seriesFriday, October 25th, 2013 from 7:00 to 9:00
At 7:30, Lorraine will present a talk on her work and its layered evolution over time.

Markings is a series continuation which begins with discarded wood taken from dumpsters, trash piles and wood shops and which exhibits distressed markings-evidence of the human hand through use, age or environment. Through subtle modifications, collaborative dualities coexist between myself and the found wood object, those who handled the object before me and the implied history of the object itself.

“My background as a textile, interior and graphic designer combined with my profound interest in maps and geology has inspired me to explore how the earth, the body and the grid intersect.”
Lorraine Glessner

Please join us for this exciting, informative and inspiring talk and exhibition! Light refreshments will be served.
