Dallas Quilt Show March 10 -12 at Dallas Market Hall

Dallas Quilt Show 2017
“Its a Charmed Life!”

March 10 – 12, 2017

Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Dallas Market Hall

This year, the Show Chair’s Theme is “It’s a Charmed Life!”

Charm Quilts have been around for over 150 years. They are referred to by many names: One Patch, indicating a single shape; Beggar, indicating that the quilter begged for fabric; and Odd-Feller, indicating no repeats in fabrics. Some very recognizable patterns include 1000 Pyramids, Grandmother’s Flower Garden, Apple Core and Postage Stamp.

For the purposes of the show theme category, here are the rules:

  • ONE SHAPE ONLY! You can use various sizes of the same shape in the quilt.
  • You can repeat fabrics in the quilt.
  • The edges of the quilt may have partial shapes where the sides were squared up, but the body of the quilt can have only one shape.
  • Borders and applique are allowed but should be an accent, not the focus.

Quilts can be one-person, two-person or group. Add a little charm to your life in 2017!

Sponsored by the Quilter’s Guild of Dallas

Special Exhibits
Don’t forget the wonderful special exhibits that will be on display in the North Hall. The 35 quilts from the Pilgrim/Roy Collection promise to be inspiring, focusing on the unique “twists” that the individual quilt makers made to traditional patterns. Two of our youngest Guild Retreat veterans will have a special exhibits of their Dowry Quilts – 13 quilts made before their weddings. Lastly, Shirley Fowlkes Stevenson, a guild member since 1980, is our “featured member” for 2016. She will have 36 items including five of her garment designs on display, as well as her breathtaking quilt artistry.
23rd Annual Miniature Quilt Auction
On Saturday afternoon, March 12th, at around 1:30 PM, you will begin hearing the distinctive sounds of an auctioneer coming from the main entrance to the show. This marks the start of the annual “live” Miniature Quilt Auction.
The Ebby House, a part of Juliette Fowler Communities, will be the 2016 beneficiary. This year, the Pride of Dallas winner will be announced at the beginning of the mini-quilt auction. The judges this year will be a group of the residents at Ebby House.
In response to a growing need, Juliette Fowler Communities opened The Ebby House in May, 2014, to provide transitional housing and supportive programs for young women ages 18-24, who have aged out of the Texas foster care system. The Ebby House is named for Dallas real estate icon, Ebby Halliday
