Artistic Journeys: Explorations by pastel artists in Keller -reception Jan. 11

Artistic Journeys: A Coalition of members from the Pastel Society of the Southwest share their explorations of multiple mediums.

Keller Public Arts – January 10 through February 21, 2018
Keller Town Hall – 1100 Bear Creek Parkway, Keller TX 76248
An Evening with the Artists – Thursday, January 11, 2018; 7 to 9 pm

“We are primarily a group of pastel artists, excited by the rich color of the pastel stick and the joy we feel as we hold it in our hand and use it in our mark-making. As you peruse our art and read our statements, you will discover a common thread…we are artists in our souls and have been artists all our lives! Our journeys are varied – as are the mediums we have utilized along the way. This exhibit is a reflection of those exciting journeys as we continue to explore our visions and ideas in many different ways…through pencil…paint…and PASTEL!

Patsy Lindamood Wildlife Art Exhibit at the West Irving Library

Irving Art Association is honored to present the Patsy Lindamood Wildlife Art Exhibit at the West Irving Library Dec. 4, 2016 through Jan. 8, 2017.The Library is located at 4444 W. Rochelle in Irving (near the intersection of Rochelle & Esters.)

Patsy is an IAA member and frequent winner in IAA’s Texas & Neighbors and Animal Art exhibits. The exhibit showcases her wildlife art but she also draws and paints domestic animals, landscape art, and portraits. Her latest series is on ranch and rodeo life.

Learning from from nationally and internationally recognized pastelists and wildlife artists, Patsy has emerged with a style uniquely her own, marked by strong, colorful, yet infinitely detailed compositions in a representational style.  She has become a nationally award winning artist in her own right.

Her work derives from research and observation of creatures in their environments, in the wild whenever possible. Trips to state and national parks have provided great adventure and abundant inspiration. Wildlife also regularly visit her property in Huntsville, and it is not unusual to pass deer or roadrunners on her weekday routes.

Working in pastel, graphite, colored pencil, and watercolor or watercolor pencil, Lindamood’s paintings are life-size, bold with color, rich with texture, and bursting with presence. She frequently paints on cradled artist boards, Pastelboard or Mylar.

About the Artist:

According to Janis, nature absorbs and inspires her. She focuses on the landscape and seeks to capture on pa- per or canvas the essence of the experience. Janis says that her personal challenge is to interpret the landscape in a sensitive, impressionistic manner.

Originally from Ohio, Janis moved to Texas in the early 90’s and presently resides there. She has a minor in studio art from Ohio University and has studied both pastel and oil with a number of nationally known artists. Her pastels and oils have been in many exhibits and have won several awards, including Honorable Mention in the Pastel Journal. “Krendick’s strong connection to the land as a sacred place is evident. Her paintings echo with reverence and ancient energy”, Informed Collector, February 2011. She has most recently received an Honorable Mention Award at the Salon 2014 held at Southwest Gallery where Outdoor Painters have their annual spring show.

Serving two years as the President of the Pastel Society of the Southwest, she remains active in that associa- tion. Pastel Society of the Southwest, Plein Air Painters of New Mexico and the International Association of Pastel Societies have awarded Signature Member status to Janis. Passion for pastels: Nancy Conant at Giddens Gallery

Passion for pastels: Nancy Conant

Born and raised in Southern California, Nancy always knew she was destined to be an artist and hoped somehow she could combine her love for animals with her passion for art. In the late 80’s her love for all creatures great and small led her to a wildlife animal refuge where she donated her time to serve as a volunteer in the compound’s hospital. Later she began working with wild and exotic animals as an animal caretaker and assistant trainer for movies and television. Through these experiences, she developed an awe and deep respect for these amazing creatures.
