“Paint The Glen” Paint Out in Glen Rose April 18

2015paintheglenrose
“PAINT THE GLEN” PAINT OUT
A PLEIN-AIR EVENT
SATURDAY, APRIL 18, 2015

Glen Rose, TX

Beginning as early as 7:30 a.m on Sat., Apr. 18., plein-air painters will check in and begin painting from Barnard’s Mill throughout the historic downtown area, and across the river in Heritage Park.

Plein-air is derived from the French words “en plein air”, meaning to paint outdoors. Sketching and painting outdoors has become tremendously popular in the last several years, so this is a marvelous opportunity to either paint in the event, or to observe artists while they paint. Artists welcome interested observers, so plan on visiting the historic and scenic sections of Glen Rose and the surrounding area and talking with the artists.

On Fri., Apr. 17, a reception and optional Nocturnal Paint is scheduled.

For more information, see the flyer: 2015 Paint the Glen
If you’re an artist interested in this one day event, please contact Pat Barrow 254-253-0311, 254-897-3081 or pbarrow@valornet

SWS Paintout at White Rock Lake

sws51

Spring is coming, and we have scheduled our first SWS local area paint out.

Location:     White Rock Lake – Sunset Bay  or Dreyfuss  Point south of the Bath House Cultural Center, or near the Sailing Clubs north of the Bath House.

Date:       Saturday, March 29, 2014

Times:     10:00 am to 1:00 pm (or later). Whoever wishes to after painting, meet at the parking area by the Bath House Cultural Center at 1:00 pm to show our work to each other.

Directions:   From the North (Northwest Highway south on Buckner Blvd.), take immediate right exit on East Lawther Road and follow it around to the boat areas. You will pass fishermen and a view of a foot bridge to the west. There are a lot of parking areas to choose from, and views of the lake, the boats and even the City skyline in the distance. The only toilets are Port-a-potties.

Coming from the South on Buckner Blvd., exit Mockingbird westbound, and exit to East Lawther Road and follow directions as above.

If you want to paint south of The Bath House Cultural Center, exit at the light at Lake Highlands Road and go west. Take the first left on Tiffany, and choose either Dreyfuss Point or Sunset Inn. Toilets appear to be open at Dreyfuss Point, but there are Port-a-potties at Sunset. You can also reach these sites if you take the exit at Northcliff to the Bath House, but turn left at the intersection with Lake Highlands and follow it around to the two sites (or go across through the housing area on Tiffany). You will find pelicans at Sunset and I believe Loons at Dreyfuss (birds, not people), along with views across the lake. There should be sailboats on the lake with the nice weather. Some of you may wish to paint at the Bath House, also.

Information:      I will be the contact person at the location – my cell number is 214 288-4546 if you get lost and need directions.  Bring snacks or a bag lunch and water, a hat and sunscreen (maybe bug spray, too).

Please contact me with any questions you might have. I am looking forward to seeing many of you there! If you are not on our e-mail list, send me a note at acousticdesign@earthlink.net to be added for future notifications.

SWS Paint Out in Paris Sept 27-29

swslogo50

Lets meet in Paris in the Fall. (Paris, Texas, that is) That will be the location for our next paint out, so mark your calendar now for September 27 – 29.

The date is earlier this year because the October calendar is full and November is risky weatherwise.

Our fall destination has its own miniature Eiffel Tower and the new Trail de Paris popular with hikers and bikers. The town is chock full of interesting architecture from the Sam Bell Maxey house to the Lamar County Historic Museum in the restored home of judge Jim Noble Thompson. Check out the twelve foot Jesus in cowboy boots in Evergreen Cemetery and the 1927 Culbertson Fountain between Clarksville and Lamar Streets. There is even a picturesque concrete batch plant for the industrially inclined.

Call the Holiday Inn Express (903.785.0088) and tell them you are with the Southwestern Watercolor Society to get our special rate of $99/night for a double with two queen beds or $89/night for a single with one king. Ask for Carmen if you have questions. If we fill 15 rooms we get the meeting room for the weekend free. We can have ourSaturday evening BYOB reception and show there and use it for a studio in case of bad weather.

Dinner Saturday night will be at the Cattle Drive Steakhouse in a newly renovated historic building just off the square. Locals give its steaks, both grilled and chicken fried, high marks, but there are lighter options as well.

The best thing about this year’s fall paint out would be for you to be there to liven things up.

See you in Paris in the Fall. For additional information contact  Walt Davis at:

widavis7@gmail.com or (903) 886-2711
