Opening Reception for the 2017 Merging Visions Exhibition June 25

MV 2017 logo 300

You are invited to the Opening Reception for the Merging Visions Exhibit, on Sunday, June 25th, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the UNT Lightwell Gallery, at 1201 West Mulberry Street, Denton, TX.  (Please note that this reception has changed from May 21st To JUNE 25th). As an added feature during the reception, 15 of the poets will read one of their poems while an image of the art paired with their work is being shown. The public also is invited to cast a vote for which of the poets and artists created the best ‘pairing.’ A tally of the votes will determine which of the top 3 poets and artists will receive the “People’s Choice Award” for this year.

This exhibition is a joint effort from members of the Visual Arts Society of Texas (VAST) and the Denton Poets’ Assembly (DPA).  It is an exhibition of art paired with poetry. This is the ninth year for this collaborative art and poetry exhibition. This is the first year that the UNT College of Visual Arts and Design has joined as a co-sponsor and host of the event.

This beautiful exhibit contains 44 works of art and 44 poems. Each piece of art is hung beside a poem with which it is paired. Either the artist or the poet initiated the process of ‘pairing’ their works. Various art media, such as paintings, drawings, imaginative fiber or textiles, prints, and photographs, comprise the works from 38 VAST artists. A wide range of poetry from 24 of the DPA poets completes the ‘pairings’ in the exhibit.

To commemorate the works in the exhibit, VAST and the DPA have published a 100 page catalog, entitled “Collections,” in which all of the exhibited works are displayed. This year the Denton Benefit League granted funds to assist VAST in the catalog’s production. A limited number of catalogs will be available for purchase at the reception.

For the past 6 years, volunteers from VAST and DPA have accomplished the remarkable task of producing both an exhibit and its accompany color catalog. The catalog also underscores the basic theme of this endeavor, that collaboration and new perspective benefit everyone. Through it, the artist, the poet, and the viewer continue to share the ‘voice’ these two forms of art lend to each other.

The Denton Public Library and the Special Collections Department in the University of North Texas Libraries have archived single copies of each consecutive issue of the catalog.

After the reception, those wanting to see the Merging Visions Exhibit can visit the UNT Art Building, 1201 W. Mulberry, Denton, TX, from May 22 through June 27th, during Gallery hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 10:00pm; Saturday and Sunday, noon – 8:00 pm

Please join us in celebrating these written and visual arts.

Opening Reception for VANGUARD: Anniversary Exhibition Feb. 18

LAUBE_55-16_Dimensions variable (1MB)

Celebrating its fourth year in the Dallas Design District, Laura Rathe Fine Art (LRFA), presents ‘VANGUARD,’ a group anniversary exhibition featuring distinctive new works by various gallery artists, with an opening reception on Saturday, February 18th from 5-8pm.

Since opening its doors at its second location in February 2013, LRFA has experienced remarkable growth and continued success on Dragon Street. This is due in large part to the gallery’s continually expanding and remarkably diverse roster of contemporary artists. ‘VANGUARD’ will highlight this diversity and present works in a variety of media by midcareer and emerging artists from both Texas and abroad. Though they come from different backgrounds, each artist is producing work at the height of their careers.

LRFA has recently broadened its international focus. ‘VANGUARD’ will present new works by recent additions to the gallery roster including, German artist Michael Laube, South African Artist Gavin Rain, and Chinese Artist Zhuang Hong Yi. This year also marks the addition of nationally and internationally known artists, Hunt Slonem and Cassandria Blackmore.

The success of LRFA’s Dallas location is also owed to the continued support of the gallery’s enthusiastic and continually expanding collector base, whose passion for contemporary art mirrors the growth and success of the Dallas art market and the city’s art scene more broadly. LRFA is extremely grateful to the community for its continued support and looks forward to serving its patrons in the New Year!

VANGUARD’ will be on view through March 25, 2017.

RO2 Art presents Sharon Neel-Bagley Ready..1..2..3….

_SharonNeelBagley_3_ob

WHERE: The Magnolia Theatre, 2nd Floor Bar – West Village
WHEN: December 8 – January 20, 2015-16
OPENING RECEPTION: Wednesday, December 9, 6-8pm

Ro2 Art is pleased to present “READY..1..2..3….” featuring new photographs by Dallas-based artist, Sharon Neel-Bagley. The reception will be held Wednesday, December 9, from 6-8pm

ABOUT THE WORK
These are not your ordinary floral photographs. They are high-speed shots taken at the moment of impact between the ammunition shot from a pellet gun and a chemically frozen flower. When I freeze these beautiful specimens with liquid nitrogen, they become brittle, allowing them to shatter, fracture, and crack in unusual ways. Shooting these flowers creates an explosion of energy, motion and color that only exists in a brief moment in time.

New York at PDNB: Michael Kenna, John Albok, Harold Feinstein, Morris Engel and Others

WaterFountain

This late summer exhibition explores the diversity and evolving landscape of the Big Apple, from street scenes to architectural studies, through a survey of both vintage and modern views.

Photographs from the 1920’s – 1960’s of New York will include street scenes of kids playing and entertaining themselves in a variety of nostalgic city kid ways.

Summer scenes from Coney Island will be included. Both Morris Engel and Harold Feinstein captured the energy of Coney Island like no others.

Also included in this exhibition are the captivating and iconic images of New York by John Albok. A master at documenting everyday life, John Albok’s passion and gentle spirit captures the rich life of a majestic city.

Michael Kenna, a contemporary artist, provides us with stellar images of New York architecture. His studies of the enigmatic Brooklyn Bridge, the Chrysler Building, and Empire State building reflect his high regard for great design and engineering that dictate a great city.

This exhibition coincides with PDNB’s third Biennial FUN SHOW! New Items and reduced pricing will be added to the FUN SHOW! for the opening of the New York exhibition.

Opening event – Saturday, August 8, 2015 from 2:00 – 8:00 PM.
