The South Side Art Walk and Open Studios is an event centered around community and creativity. Come stroll the Artist Quarter at South Side on Lamar in the historic Sears building and discover a myriad of artists and talents while taking in the fresh tunes by DJ Frances Jaye and sipping a delicious beverage from Checkered Past Winery or Opening Bell Coffee. Artists will have their studios open and others will have exhibition spaces lining the Artist Quarter. ArtLoveMagic will be exhibiting their DECADE show in The Janette Kennedy Gallery as well as hosting artists working live in their Artist Quarter studio. Checkered Past Winery and Opening Bell are hosting after parties with live music and drink specials starting at 8pm. Those Guys will be playing at Checkered Past Winery and Anna Larson from Austin will be preforming at Opening Bell. The event is free and indoors and will go on rain or shine. We’d love to see you. We are also still looking for a few good artists who create gallery quality work and fine crafts to come sail with us on our maiden voyage. This is the first in a series of quarterly events and exhibition spaces are free. Visit www.southsideartwalk.com to download the information and application packet.

News from Kessler Craftsman
It has been an exciting last few months in the studio. We’ve been refining our vitrograph kiln techniques. Imagine pulling long strings of 1600F glass from a kiln 7 feet off of the ground! As part of this, we’re just starting to pull murrini; multi-colored, patterned glass, using it to create stunning drop ring bowls! Watch for a class in first quarter, 2016! See the picture above; the first ever murrini drop-ring bowl!
We also have been developing our powder printing techniques; images and patterns that are ‘printed’ with dry glass powder and then fired! Look for a class on powder-printing techinques in 2016!
