Presentation by Artist Lisa Adams Reed at the VAST February Meeting

Lisa Adams Reed banner 100 dpi

You are invited to a Feb. 2nd presentation by painter Lisa Adams Reed. Reed lives in New Mexico and is represented by galleries in Dallas, Santa Fe, Farmington, NM, Crested Butte, CO., and Watkins Glenn, NY.

Lisa Adams Reed’s artist statement:
“I have very secretly seen myself as an artist since I was a small child. I always knew my creativity would dominate my life and in this final third I am all in! Although it’s been quite the leap to go from being an executive for a Fortune 200 company to the world of art, I have never once looked back.”

“I was blessed by a stroke that left me blind in one eye a few years ago. Funny how it made me see things differently and has made me have an even greater desire to paint the world from this unique perspective.”

“I discovered my favorite juicy medium when I first opened a jar of cold wax and mixed it with oil. It was like painting with yummy canned frosting! The many layers that I apply, then intuitively scrape away, always reveals beautiful surprises underneath. So much like life.”

“My paintings are SoulScapes. Since jumping into painting 100% in my 60s, I have been fortunate enough to be included and featured in many shows, and won more awards than I could have dreamed.”

To find out more about Lisa Adams Reed, see: http://lisaadamsreed.com/

When:  February 2nd, 2017, from 7 – 9 p.m.

Where:  Patterson-Appleton Arts Center
400 East Hickory St, Denton

The presentation is free for VAST Members; $3 for guests. http://vastarts.org

Known for her bold, impressionistic florals and large container gardens that are immediately eye-catching, Nancy teaches throughout the US and Europe, sharing a loose, bright technique that evokes brilliant color.

Nancy’s love of art and gardening originated on her childhood farm in Scurry, Texas, where her parents were organic gardeners. Her earliest memories are of standing barefoot beneath 11 foot sunflower stalks in her family’s garden. Nancy studied art history and illustration at the University of London, King’s College, Chelsea, and oil painting and color theory at Texas A&M University. Today she resides with her husband and their 4 pugs in Flower Mound, Texas, where she paints daily from Flower Mound Art Studio.

A native of West Virginia, Robert H. Garden graduated from the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, with a MBA in Art.  His distinguished 30+ year career in commercial and fine art has afforded Mr. Garden commissions ranging from museum dioramas to convention center murals.  A PREMIER GALLERY ARTIST, author, lecturer and teacher, Garden is accomplished in both oils and watercolor. Because of limited availability of co competent art instruction, either in or out of college, the “Robert Garden Method” of painting was developed and perfected.
He teaches his method to people from ages 5 to 105.  His classes are held at many locations all over, in Colorado, on a cruise ship to Alaska, all over the DFW area and every year he holds a week long workshop in Port Aransas, Texas.
Robert is holding a 2-day Oil Painting Seminar on Friday and Saturday April 1 & 2m, at the Jaycee Center for the Arts, in Irving.  For $175 you receive 2 days of instructions, a 16 x 20 canvas and all of the oil painting supplies for both day including an easel to use.  All you have to do is wear old clothes, bring a roll of paper towels and your lunch (there is a full kitchen to cook or warm up anything and of course there is a refrigerator.  Going out close by is also an option, Pay in advance.  Robert’s number is 469-371-5063.  His website is robertgardenartist.com  Workshop brochure: Robert GardenTwo Day Detail Workshop 2016.

Christy Kidwell Oil Demo on Feb. 23 in Irving

Guest artist at the Tuesday, February 23rd meeting of the Irving Art Association will be artist Christy Kidwell.  She will be demonstrating her oil painting style in landscape, figurative or coastal subjects.

The Mixer with refreshments starts at 6:45 pm and the Meeting at 7:00 pm at the Jaycee Park Center for the Arts in Irving. Artists, don’t forget to bring art for the Artist of the Month competition and donations for the Silent Auction by 6:45. Guests are welcome. Directions.

Christy Kidwell is a native Texan.  She grew up in Houston along the banks of Buffalo Bayou which served as a natural playground.  She has lived in Dallas since graduating from Southern Methodist University in 1974.  As  ACA’s workshop coordinator for 10 years, she was able to continue her studies with such nationally recognized artists as Everett Raymond Kinstler, Dan Gerhartz, Scott Burdick, Kevin Macpherson, Harley Brown, Matt Smith, Charles Sovek and many others.  Now her portrait commissions and paintings can be found in private collections throughout the United States.

A love for nature has led her to broaden her studio to the great outdoors.  Armed with a pochade box and backpack she now adds landscape to her regular portrait and figure sessions.  “My paints travel with me everywhere.  They have ridden on a raft through the Grand Canyon and gone by horseback along trails in the Bob Marshall Wilderness of Montana.  Painting is my way of connecting with the world around me and sharing those experiences along the way.”  Color, texture and light are the essence of her paintings, all defined with a loose brushstroke, yet representational of the person or moment in time.

Kidwell is a current signature member of the Outdoor Painters Society and has been a signature member of the Association of Creative Artists since 1994.  She has exhibited and won awards in many local as well as national competitions.  For five consecutive years she had paintings juried into the Salon International Competition.  In 2013 and 2014 her art was juried into the American Women Artists national competition.  Twice she was a finalist in the Artist’s Magazine Annual Competition.  Her painting, “The Gossips”, was chosen for the 2005 limited-edition wall calendar.  She has done featured demonstrations for many art clubs in Texas.  Currently, she is represented by galleries in Dallas, Port Aransas and Montana.

Nancy Medina: Painting Brilliant Florals in Italy June 26 – July 2, 2016

Your colorful cultural immersion awaits….

I can’t tell you how excited I am to be the first painting artist to join the incredible Vita Verde team for a trip to the heart of Italy! I want to take you with me for a colorful journey to Sant’Angelo in Vado, June 26-July 2, 2016. We will immerse ourselves in local culture, shopping, history, and cuisine while residing in a beautiful village. We’ll have dinner in a local vineyard, take a day trip to the Adriatic Sea, and be treated to the best of the region by native guide and international sommelier Piero.

We’ll paint each day in a rustic farmhouse, and your supplies will be provided to help leave room in your travel bag for all those treasures and mementos! We are limiting this workshop experience to a very small group of painters (and nonpainters are welcome, too!) for a truly personalized trip. Our hotel is just upstairs from a pastry shop and flanked on both sides by flower stores. Are you beginning to sense this entire trip was orchestrated specifically with YOU in mind? Don’t delay, mia cara, the early bird discount is in effect only until January 1. I can’t wait to share the best of Italy with you in 2016!

Matthew Alexander Exhibit at Alan Barnes Fine Art

Alan Barnes General Invite
World renowned British impressionist Matthew Alexander will be exhibiting at Alan Barnes Fine Art from November 20- December 18. Alexander is one of the leading Impressionist painters in British 20th Century Art.  Born to be a painter, his father was a painter – his brother is a painter and the conversation in the family seldom strayed from the continual struggle that ensues the creative process.  Alexander’s paintings are timeless yet modern making him one of the most sought after impressionist artists today.  Alexander’s exhibits at the Royal Academy London, the British Institution as well as the Royal Society of British Artists have been preludes to his continuous sell out shows on London’s Cork Street.
Light on the Landscape is a special collection of small oil paintings that speak of sunlight; sunlight when it breaks through clouds, and shadows where they congregate, painted especially for this Dallas exhibition.  Alan Barnes Fine Art is the sole representative of Alexander’s work in the United States.
