I’ve been painting for 30 years.  As a young man I started my own business contracting the painting of billboards. After gathering some years of experience, I signed a contract with a Dallas company and painted their pictorial work in a studio environment for eight years.

With the advent of large printers, I chose to transfer my skills to painting murals.  My clients have included PepsiCo, GE, Southwest Airlines, Landry’s (Saltgrass, Rainforest), Simon Properties and many schools and restaurants.   I feel fortunate that I’ve been able to support myself with a paintbrush for over 30 years.

For the most part, I am self taught.  However, I’m grateful to all of the artists whose work I’ve studied because they have continued my education. In particular, Connie Erickson has provided her honest critique and her encouragement in my pursuit of fine art.  Beauty inspires me; training the eye to see color, values and design while pursuing the beauty that light reveals is a lifelong adventure.  John Pototschnik, Andrew Wages and Kaye Franklin have shaped my understanding of color. Chris Brandly oil demo for TAG Oct. 2nd

The next Trinity Arts Guild meeting will be on Monday, October 2, 2017.

Location: Trinity Arts Guild Gallery, Bedford Boys Ranch, 2819 R. D. Hurt Pkwy., Bedford, TX 76095-0671 (817) 283-1422  www.trinityartsguild.net

Guest demo artist will be Chris Brandley

Refreshments 6:30 pm Membership Registration 6:30 pm
Demonstration with Chris Brandley 7:00 pm

Chris Brandley was born in Warner Robins, Georgia in 1967. Being the daughter of an Air Force pilot, Chris grew up all over the world, where she was exposed to the Old Masters from an early age as her parents took her to museums everywhere they went. She was drawn to the Impressionist painters, and how they painted every- day life scenes and captured the light and use of color in expressive ways. In 1977 her family moved to Holland, where the breath-taking beauty was etched into her memories. Her experience in Europe plays an instrumental part in her current work.

In 1989 Chris graduated with a BFA in Art Education from Baylor University, and taught art in the public school system in the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area for 11 years. In 2002 she stepped down from teach- ing school, and established her own business which included every- thing from painting commercial and residential murals and faux fin- ishes, to painting oil on canvas. After demand for her paintings grew, she decided to make another transition in 2012 and relinquish the faux and mural side of her business.

Ms. Brandley’s paintings embrace a range of subjects, with her fo- cus being on her expression of how a moment in time makes her feel, using light and vivid color. Chris has been commissioned by designers in both commercial and high end residential homes for oil paintings, murals, and decorative finishes, and has been represented by art galleries throughout Tex- as. She is an award winning artist, has participated in several art shows and exhibitions, and has a passion for teaching workshops in the “Alla Prima” method of oil painting.

Her work has been used in television backdrops and documentaries (i.e. Daystar Television Network and EWTN Global Catholic Televi- sion Network), and has also been licensed to international tile com- panies.
Chris Brandley currently resides in Keller, Texas, with her husband

JUDY CROWE from Glen Rose

Artists Statement:

Judy Crowe

“I loved to draw as child-mostly ladies in long beautiful dresses. At one point, I thought I might pursue clothes design as a career. My mother passed away when I was 17 though and the social worker at MD Anderson helped me so much that I began to seriously consider social work as my college major. It was only later that I was introduced to oil painting and became passionate about learning the skill. ”

“I love the works of the Old Masters but the Impressionist painters are the painters I most admire for their vibrant use of color and their individual brushwork. As it did for the impressionists, everyday subjects inspire me. I love flowers, landscapes, and figurative work. I simply appreciate the beauty of nature. It’s quite a challenge to capture the feel of a time or place on canvas rather than a photo representation. ”

This is going to be another demonstration NOT to miss! Please help us welcome Judy back to Waxahachie!

ECCA Meeting July 10 – Demo artist Bev Boren

Ellis County Art Association

113 W. FRANKLIN  Waxahachie, TX 75165

Bev Boren was born and raised in Texas and now resides in Trophy Club, Texas with her husband Ben. She is a signature member of the Outdoor Painters Society and the Southwestern Watercolor Society. She is also a member of the Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, and American Watercolor Society.

Her work is primarily the result of her need to paint. Inspiration can come at any time and in any place. She is not confined to one subject area. She loves to paint a variety of subject matter as well as working in various mediums. Bev’s paintings are created with things that capture her eye whether it’s a still life, landscape, or capturing a person’s personality. Painting is her way of connecting with the world and the people around her and sharing those experiences along the way. Beverly is accomplished in watercolor, pastel, graphite and oil. She’s also an outstanding photographer. Visit her website: http://www.bevboren.com

In her words “Trying to describe or explain my efforts at painting or drawing seems like a futile effort. After all, I want my work to express itself without the necessity of words. My best hope is that my work will stand simply on it’s own, and find a connection with viewers where words fail”.

Beverly will be demonstrating her technique in oil. You don’t want to miss it – please plan to attend and welcome her to Waxahachie.

rustyjones2 rustyjones1

Texas based artist, Rusty Jones, traces his earliest influence to his grandmother who was the first to place a paintbrush in his hands and encourage his interest in art. He vividly remembers her studio on the second floor of a historic home that once served as a stagecoach stop just outside of San Antonio. She would set up still lifes for him to draw or take him outside where she would set up her French easel and paint landscapes. “She had a crusty, difficult personality and could be as mean as a barnyard billy-goat, but when she began to paint you could see the joy in her face as she glided her brush across the canvas.”

Rusty graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Communications and the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas with a Masters of Science Degree in Medical Illustration. He is a Certified Medical Illustrator and a Fellow of the Association of Medical Illustrators. For over three decades Rusty provided highly technical medical art for major pharmaceutical companies, medical product companies, medical journals, surgical atlases and ad agencies.

Rusty’s love of sports led him into sporting art which landed him illustration assignments with such notable magazines as Golf Illustrated, Golf Magazine, the Golf Journal, the Masters Journal and American Way Magazine. He also provided sports art for the Coca-Cola Foods Division for the Summer Olympics, the Dallas Cowboys NFL team and the Dallas Mavericks NBA team.

Now Rusty focuses his artistic skills painting the Western American landscape. Following in the tradition of John Singer Sargent, Julian Onderdonk, Portofino Salinas, Edgar Payne and many other great American painters Rusty travels throughout the country painting the landscapes before him. “Painting outdoors takes passion. Without it the wind, heat, snow and bugs will drive you indoors. I enjoy my time in the studio, but it doesn’t make my heart race like it does when I am outside.”

Rusty is a Master Signature member of Outdoor Painters Society….and a “master” at painting plein air – Please join us for a great evening of art & fun!

JANUARY DEMO ARTIST for Ellis County Art Association

We’re excited and honored to have our friend & a popular demo artist, Francys Flanagan as our demonstration guest for January.

Artist’s Statement:

“Words, strung like pearls on a page paint a picture. Music tells the soul a story. Colours and shapes on a canvas make the heart sing. Three doors into a magical and lovely place that God’s gift, imagination, allows us to enter. As a child I strolled at will through these doors and lived in that place. As I “grew up”, I never left it.

In 1977 God gave me another gift in the person of artist Dick Turner. Dick gave a fortunate few the tools needed in order to use paint and canvas to take others into that world of beauty and peace. A world that might catch at your imagination and cause you to ask, “What if…..”

From the time I was a small girl I knew I would be an artist. I just didn’t know what kind. I read book after book about painters, musicians, dancers, and writers. Then in 1977, through the chance meeting with artist Dick Turner, I knew that I too would be a painter.

I immersed myself, soul and body, in that pursuit. I studied with Dick from 1977 until 1982, taking 5 and 6 classes a week at his private art school in Houston.
I have also received instruction from William Reese, William Henry Earle, Carolyn Anderson, Greg Kreutz, Roberta Carter Clark, Ray Vinella, Jean Chambers, Scott Burdick and Daniel Greene.”

Francys is not only a superb oil painter and teacher…she’s an absolute joy to watch! Please Join us as we welcome her to ART on the Square!

ACA Meeting Nov. 1 & Demo by Bruce Peil

Our November meeting will be on this Tuesday, November 1st at Artists’ Showplace, as usual. If you need  directions, you can find them on our website here. Associated Creative Artists website: http://www.acadallas.org/
Our demo artist is Bruce Peil, co-founder of the Outdoor Painter’s Society and Signature Member of Oil Painters of America. Bring a painting and a snack, and be ready to enjoy his demo!
About the Artist:
Bruce Peil was born and raised in Oklahoma and now resides in Athens, Texas.  He is a signature member of the Oil Painters of America,  the co-founder of the Outdoor Painters Society. and a member of the Oklahoma Society of Impressionists.  His paintings are widely collected and he is primarily known for his landscape paintings.
No matter what the subject matter is, it’s that fleeting moment in time and the particular feeling of the light that I strive most to capture in my paintings.  I want the viewer to feel as though they are experiencing that moment in time.  My goal is to capture the truth about the subject without over embellishment of color or too many unimportant details that can distract the eye from the main idea. The light.”  http://brucepeilart.com/
