There Is Still Time To Reserve Your Table for November Artwalk

The November Midtown Artwalk will be on Saturday November 19 and this is the Saturday before Black Friday and the Thanksgiving holiday.

This is an opportunity for mall shoppers to catch up on holiday sales and my advice to you is to have some quick selling items. Items that are $10-$20 and that don’t eat up your cost.

Movies that are out and have been keeping the mall busy are:
Dr. Strange
Almost Christmas

There are more movies, but these are the popular top three.

If you would like to reserve a booth please let me know by Friday the 18th.  Booth space is $50.

Summer Mini-Classes

How do you beat the heat in July and August? By signing up for a mini-class at the Craft Guild.

It’s not too late to register for Session 2 classes (July 5 – July 29).  And, we’ve just added Session 3(August 1 – August 26) classes to the schedule.
To make registration easier for Summer 3, stop by the Craft Guild on July 9 from 11 am until 3 pm,  and a volunteer will be there to help you with registration.

It’s a Party and You’re Invited!
Part of the fun of being in the artist-focused Valley View Mall is being able to participate in the Midtown Artwalk, held the third Saturday of every month. Art galleries and artist studios are open, and crowds mill around live demonstrations in the center of the mall as they enjoy refreshments.
It’s the perfect time to visit the Craft Guild in our new location.  Browse through our studios and take time to sign up for a class.
Open House:  July 16, 6 to 8 pm

Save the Dates!
The Craft Guild Fall Show and Sale will be held on November 3 – 6.  Applications will be available in late July.

Yes, This is Really Made From Clay!
Silver Jewelry Made Simple
This lovely silver pendant started its life as clay – metal clay.  Not too long ago, Japanese engineers discovered a way to combine silver with a binder to create a soft, malleable clay easily formed into jewelry. When it’s fired, the binder burns away and your creation is now fine silver (.999 silver).
“It’s almost like working with Playdough,” laughs Charlotte Edwards, metal clay instructor.  “You can make just about anything with it that you can imagine!  Our students also really love the instant gratification. Beginning students can make a simple piece and fire it in their first class, walking out with a unique pendant or pair of earrings that they made totally from scratch. It’s easy, fast, and addictive!”
“Plus,” she adds, “there’s no guessing:  what you see in the clay form is exactly what you get when it’s fired.  Also, some stones can be set and fired directly with the clay. Even beginning students can quickly learn to make pretty complicated pieces of jewelry.”
Ring by Cherie Fruehan, made in her fifth class
Charlotte started making jewelry as a metals fabricator, but was rapidly drawn to metal clay because of its versatility, and how quickly a project can be completed.  She is now one of a handful of metal clay instructors certified by Art Clay in the Dallas area.  She began teaching at the Guild last year, and expanded her classes this year due to growing demand.

This summer, Charlotte is teaching three metal clay classes each session, and has scheduled several one-day workshops.  For a list of metal clay classes, click here.
