Artluck Sessions: Figure Drawing by Alexa Alarcon de Wierenga

artluck photo

This is a figure drawing class led by local Fort Worth artist, Alexa Alarcon de Wierenga. Alexa began creating art at a very young age. At five she was in a stain glass window class with Mary Lynn Bowman, at 14 went to Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, and later obtained a BFA in painting at UT Arlington. At Booker T. WHSPVA, she was the first freshman to be allowed to participate in an extracurricular, nude, figure drawing class guided by Nancy Miller. Alexa’s artwork is heavily influenced by the 4 years of figure drawing classes, her concepts sweep within psychological states of mind, environmental and social politics. She currently works at Dow Art Galleries, LLC as an Art Restorer, while continuing to work as an artist in the evenings.

The subject of the class will be a live nude model and the sessions will be split into two 45min sessions with a 15min break in-between.The first session begins at 6:30 p.m. and consists of several poses timed at different increments to serve as a warm-up. The second session is a single 45 min. pose that begins at 7:30 p.m.

Ellen Soderquist’s Life Drawing Workshop 2017

Soderquistlifedrawing

The Artists Showplace Gallery presents…

MARCH 10th & March11th
$220 Life Drawing

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
An effective gesture drawing not only records the necessities of the physical attributes of the model, but also embodies an essence of humanity. Establishing the weight, shape, movement and rhythm of the model’s pose provides a visual armature on which a drawing of the figure can be built. However, when the artist also achieves a certain intangible quality in his gesture drawing that evokes attitude, the drawing can even stand on its own. The thing about a gesture drawing of the human figure that is so intoxicating for the artist is that the flurry of charcoal dust or the tangled lines of graphite can coalesce into a palpable being.
Soderquistlifedraw2
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Since 1979, Ellen Soderquist has been a studio artist, a teacher of life drawing and a proponent of the nude in contemporary art. As an artist, Ellen Soderquist creates intelligent and sensuous graphite drawings of the nude human body. As a teacher of life drawing, she advocates that her students learn the role of the nude in the history of art and that they communicate their ideas about humanity through their work. As a lecturer and an author, she addresses the relevance of the nude in shaping the art of a culture and the importance of the nude as an art form.

SONIQ EXHIBITION: Muse Sings the Blues June 18

SONIQ EXHIBITION 2

Artists and lovers of the arts! The Muse has been the object AND subject of countless works of art for centuries. Her silent presence has been the inspirational catalyst for artists of every medium.

The artist, through his/her art, typically creates and tells the Muse’s story. But, what if the Muse told her own story? What would she say? What would she want us to know?

Singer and Art Model Marquel Dionne combines the art of song, storytelling and movement/non-movement to bring the heart, mind and soul of the Muse to life.

Artists are encouraged to bring their easels, sketchbooks, canvases and DRY media (no paint, water colors, etc.) of their choosing. Spectators are encouraged to bring their appetite for musical adventure and a total immersion into the world of art and sound.

Song Exhibition: “Torch/blues/wailing” songs made popular by women from around the world.

Artists: This concert will be very similar to a typical clothed life drawing session. It will include gestures, short and long poses. This is NOT a photography session. Photos are allowed for REFERENCE PURPOSES ONLY! Photos used for any other purpose require Marquel Dionne’s WRITTEN consent.
