Exhibit and Reception Sept. 22: Storms of Life | Chrissy Fitch

Storms of Life, mixed media works by Chrissy Fitch are currently on view at Elm Street Studio in Keller. Fitch’s work investigates the vastness of the natural world: nature, from its majestic beauty to violent storms, as it relates to personal life storms such as illness, relationships and loss. In her work, she communicates how the immensity of nature allows us to look beyond the pain and drudgery of our own lives, and points us to something greater than ourselves. Using gathered materials, encaustic, and assemblage techniques; Fitch imbues the chaos of storms in both nature and life. Through her work you will see the renewing quality of nature and conquering power of beauty.

A portion of art sale proceeds from this show will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. This exhibit runs through October 27th with a reception open to the public on Friday, September 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00pm. For more information, please visit www.ElmStreetStudioKeller.com/Gallery or call Shelly Hye at 214-478-8372.

1st Annual Keller Art Walk call for artists

Arts take center stage in new Keller festival

A new family-friendly festival celebrating the arts is coming to Old Town Keller thanks to a partnership between the city’s Public Arts Board and the local nonprofit Keller Public Arts Society.

Keller, TX – The first annual Keller Art Walk, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14 from 3 to 8 pm, will honor the artists selected for the city’s new rotating art program and celebrate the recently completed improvements in Old Town Keller.

Location: Old Town Keller West

Earlier this year, the Arts Board initiated the inaugural phase of a rotating art-on-loan program to fill the sculpture pads added during the city’s recent updates to Old Town Keller West. The pads are located along the strolling promenade that runs north-south adjacent to the eclectic restaurants and small businesses in the area.

For Phase I of the program, the Arts Board selected five sculptures for a two-year exhibit; in 2018, they will select and install six additional pieces, also for a two-year exhibit. The staggered phases will bring new pieces to Old Town each year, providing a dynamic and engaging attraction that will help draw interest and foot traffic to the area.

The Keller Art Walk will be a community event with a unique, strolling atmosphere aimed at showcasing the arts in Keller. Patrons will have the opportunity to meet the artists whose work is on display in Old Town and watch plein-aire, or outdoor, artists create captivating paintings along the promenade. Student musicians from Keller ISD and a variety of local vendors and professional entertainers will also be featured throughout the event.

Sponsorships and vendor spots are still available. Applications can be found at www.cityofkeller.com/artwalk. For more information, call 817-743-4000 or email publicarts@cityofkeller.com.

About KPAS: Keller Public Arts Society is a 501(c)3 corporation dedicated to supporting public art in Keller.  Our mission is to provide a platform for on-going support and participation in the preservation and growth of the local artistic community through collaboration with city government and civic organizations, as well as local businesses, clubs and individuals interested in supporting the arts.  Membership is free.

“Strong Color” – Avery Kelly & Steve Uriegas exhibit in Keller

Avery Kelly and Steve Uriegas share their talents as palette knife painters in the August public art show at Keller Town Hall. The Keller Public Arts program is pleased to highlight their art for this month long event from August 2nd through August 30th. The larger than average paintings will take your breath away with the bold color and individual subjects.

“Miss Kelly’s work centers on the beauty and energy of the natural world. Specializing in oil painting and relief printmaking, she strives to convey a sense of joy and mystery through her work.”

“My current style, I coined Angular Expressionism, came by way of trial and error. The most important element of the technique is the use of pallet knives only, no brushes. It’s a process that took me a couple of years to develop and at this point I’m very comfortable in it. It’s an application that is systemized and choreographed. With this framework in place, I’m provided the liberty to search deeper for new ideas and concepts. It provides a structure I can work within using the canvas as my page and colors as my words. The reason I paint is because it gives me a way to express myself without the absoluteness of words.”

Join Avery and Steve for an Evening with the Artists, Thursday, August 10th from 7 to 9 pm at Keller Town Hall. Enjoy the music of the Southlake Community Band on the back patio, share refreshments and exchange in conversation around the art.

Rolling By

A native of Waco, Texas, Teri Muse, having received both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Fine Arts, began her art career with paper-making. Creating her own paper canvasses, she was commissioned for large public spaces, including the Westin Hotel, Birmingham, the American Heart Association, Dallas, and Prudential Life Insurance, Chicago.

Teri began teaching art education in local DFW schools while continuing to pursue her talents as an artist. Always seeking new and unusual artistic ideas, she took an interest in the “encaustic technique of painting with melted wax. It creates unusual luminosity and translucency and allows Muse to include papers and materials into the layers of wax, something she also likes to do in her acrylic paintings. Her collections of maps, fabrics, sheet music and postage stamps become a backdrop for her “asemic”, or wordless, writing-linear elements running throughout her works for years and grounding them with the dual traits of strength and mystery.”

Visit her website at www.terimuse.com to see more of Teri’s creations.

Art Exhibit and Reception: Capturing the Dream | Irma Ward

finley_irma-ward

Capturing the Dream | Irma Ward

Reception:
Friday, January 27
6:00 to 8:00 pm

Ward begins with a sketch that can be contrived as a recognizable scene or accessible shapes, then transforms the surface, layer after layer, until the painting is complete. Ward shares a favorite quote from Marc Chagall speaking about the meaning of ‘abstract,’ “…something which comes to life spontaneously through a gamut of contracts….and pervades both the picture and the eye of the spectator with conceptions of new and unfamiliar elements.” With Wards paintings, too the final image may have no visible connection with the initial sketch, but will inspire the viewer to find “new and unfamiliar elements.

“Capturing the Dream, paintings by Irma Ward” will be on view from January 3 to February 27 at Elm Street Studio in Keller, Texas. Please join us for a complimentary reception and meet the artist on Friday, January 27th from 6 to 8pm. To see more of Wards’ work and for details, please visit www.ElmStreetStudioKeller.com.

IrmaWard.capture2jpg

In addition to her abstract pieces, Ward is sharing with us a portion of a wonderful series she has created called “Diary of Susie Swimmer.” Ward explored a 30 day challenge to create a new painting every day for a month. For continuity, Ward designed still life paintings and included the same ceramic figurine – Susie Swimmer in each of the 30 paintings. Stop by to see some of these whimsical painting, and read the story associated with each.

A portion of all art sale proceeds will benefit the Disabled American Veterans.

Gallery Hours: Tuesday to Friday from 1 to 5pm and by appointment

Fresh Flowers & Baked Goods Exhibit at Keller Town Hall

IMG_9618

Exhibit – Fresh Flowers & Baked Goods
Featured Artists – Scott Parker, Andrew Stalder
September 6 – 28, 2016 –
Keller Town Hall; 1100 Bear Creek Pkwy., Keller, TX 76248

An Evening with the Artists – Thursday, September 8, 2016; 7 to 9 pm

Andrew Stalder and Scott Parker are both Associate Professors of Art at TCCD, Northeast Campus. Their oil paintings provide a detailed look at the intricacies of flowers by Stalder and the delecatability of Parker’s baked goods. The viewer will enjoy the combination of subjects, as the eye and palate are both tantalized while viewing.

“Painter, Scott Parker began to paint desserts following the completion of a figure painting that included a shelf with a piece of chocolate pie. He loved painting that pie, especially after spending a month on flesh-tones!  And so, he decided to paint just one, large piece of chocolate cake, thus beginning over-a-year-long period of painting nothing but decadent sweets. His paintings of monumentally-sized desserts that share a lineage with old-masters’ work such as Pieter Claesz’s Banquet paintings, which served to maintain and reveal the power and wealth of those celebrating with great spreads of sumptuous foods. Parker’s work is serious but also meant to bring about the feelings of desire and pleasure rather than a discourse or exhaustive idea, allowing viewers’ reaction to the work to be far more positive than expected. The work usually elicits hunger-desire roles in viewers but also general feelings of great happiness. Parker enjoys delving into how his subjects stand for all that is desirably tempting, and he does eat them all.” He received his BFA in Painting at the University of Texas, Arlington and an MFA in Painting at Savannah College of Art and Design.

“Andrew Stalder has been painting for over 25 years. He is a contemporary realist oil painter and his primary source of inspiration is the richly diverse subject matter of flowers – both cultivated and wild. His art is characterized by vibrant colors and dramatic, photorealistic compositions. He has won awards for his talent which he perfected in is studies of painting at the University of Dallas (B.A.) and Ohio University (M.F.A.). A current resident of Bedford, TX, he has displayed his art in many solo and group exhibitions, most recently “Florescence” at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin.”
