A Priori Series of Paintings

by Jim Lively

April 22, 2017 – July 22, 2017

Opening Reception: Saturday, April 22, 2017, 6 to 9pm

Fashion designer, Paulette Martsolf and artist, Jim Lively brought their creative talents together to create an innovative concept of merging unique and original fashion with contemporary visual art. The concept gave birth to the endeavor known as “Allie – Coosh Lifestyle” and “Martsolf Lively Contemporary” where fashion gracefully and seamlessly collides with fine art. Previously, Paulette owned Allie-Coosh which featured her own creative fashion for twenty-four years located in Snider Plaza. Due to escalating rent, she decided to renovate the building she owned near downtown Richardson which housed her manufacturing. The renovations resulted in an industrial chic venue which now houses both her manufacturing, a fashion boutique, art gallery and artist studio.

Customed TailoredAs the renovations began to unfold, Jim contemplated as to what might be an appropriate theme for a series of paintings to christen the new venue. After some thought, he kept being drawn back to his days in college where he had the luxury of studying philosophy. Jim was always intrigued by the concept of a priori which may be defined as relating to or denoting reasoning or knowledge that proceeds from theoretical deduction rather than from observation or experience.

The first painting in this series is entitled “Fresh Start” which is an abstract piece that incorporates imaginary asymmetrical shapes into what appear to be wood grain slats. By its title, the painting is not dependent upon past experience but instead is forward looking and intended to be somewhat unique. Several of the pieces in the series such as the whimsically titled “Little Black Dress” embraces the theme of the Allie – Coosh Lifestyle and Martsolf Lively Contemporary of where fashion collides with art.

To add a hint of additional diversity during the exhibition, LuminArte Fine Art Gallery is hosting a lecture and book signing by Bob Lively of his new novel, “The Thin Place” on Saturday, March 19th, from 7 to 10pm.

“The Puzzle Aesthetic” Art Exhibition & Book Signing May 25

puzzle aesthetic

LuminArte Gallery proudly presents The Puzzle Aesthetic Book Signing and Opening Exhibit by Jim Lively on Saturday, May 25, 7pm – 10pm. The Puzzle Aesthetic is a fictional work based on the dramatic history of a very real Dallas attorney, Jim Lively, and features complementing artwork. The event coincides with the “Fantastic Realism” exhibit, which will run through June 29, 2013, featuring surrealism, dream motifs and postmodern juxtapositions by a collection of artists. The opening reception is complimentary. Books will be available for sale for $25 each plus tax.

Lively’s multi-media art, which is created through photography, video and painted works, is focused squarely on the average man existing within the happenstance tide that is corporate America. Whether portrayed in the abstract, realism or somewhere in between, Lively’s work is influenced by the attractive, unattractive and sometimes humorous components of contemporary culture. His abstract paintings reflect contemporary culture through the use of texture, intersecting lines, color shading and often text. For more information about Jim Lively, visit www.jimlivelyart.com.

In addition to Jim Lively, artists on display for the “Fantastic Realism” exhibit include Shohla Rosa, Katrin Alvarez, Magi Calhoun, Tina Spiro, Ed Grant, Sue Little, Melanie Little Gomez, Carolina Rojas, Salvatore Zagami, Chema Gil, Alan Shepard, and Franceska.
