Best of Texas Clay 2017  Call for Entries
The Best of Texas Clay is a biennial event sponsored by the Texas Pottery & Sculpture Guild (TPSG), it is open to artists residing in the State of Texas. For this year’s event, TPSG is committing a minimum of $1,600 in awards. Best in Show $1,000, First Runner Up $200, Second Runner Up $100, other awards $300. This year’s event will be hosted by Tarrant County College Northeast. Inquires may be made by email to info@tpsg.biz.

The juror for Best of Texas Clay 2017 is Melba Northum, an artist with thirty-seven years of expertise in ceramic sculpture and pottery with an active exhibition vita. Ms. Northum received a MFA in ceramics from the University of North Texas and her BFA in ceramics from Texas Tech University.

Ms. Northum has extensive teaching experience, including BFA & MFA ceramics programs at Texas Christian University, the University of Texas Arlington, University of North Texas, Tarrant County College, and Richland College.

Ms. Northum exhibits extensively in international, national, and regional venues, including work in the library collection of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Recent exhibitions include Broken Sugar, Fort Worth, Transience: Imperfect, Impermanent, Incomplete, Dallas and Oceans of the Unknown, at Cedar Valley College, Dallas.

Application Requirements:

  1. Must reside in the state of Texas.
  2. Application fee is $35 for TPSG members, $45 for non-members. Fees are non-refundable.
  3. Application and payment of fees will be accepted online only.
  4. Works must be original, created by the artist, the majority being clay.
  5. Pieces entered do not have to be for sale.
  6. TPSG will retain 20% of all sales.
  7. Artists are responsible for delivery of artwork to the exhibition site.
  8. Works cannot weigh more than 75 pounds and or be larger than 8’ x 8’.
  9. Artwork must be ready for installation when received. TPSG reserves the right to exclude work that present complex installation problems.
  10. Work may not be withdrawn from the exhibit before it’s completion.
  11. Work not retrieved by the pickup deadline will be donated to the Emergency Artists’ Support Leagueunless prior arrangements have been made.

The application may include up to three pieces. If your original application includes fewer than three pieces you may add to it before the deadline is passed. If more than three images are submitted, the first three will be used.

Preparation of Images for Entry:

  1. Images must be in JPEG format, 300 dpi and a maximum 1920 pixels on the longest side.
  2. File names must adhere to the following format, “Artist last name – first initial – title of the work.jpg”.
  3. Dimension of the artwork must be given in inches as height x width x depth.
  4. A brief description must be included with each image providing other relevant information such as materials used, firing process, etc. (a maximum of 100 characters)
Liability:

Every precaution will be taken in the handling of artwork. However, Tarrant County College Northeast and the Texas Pottery & Sculpture Guild are not responsible for loss or damage to any work of art. Artists are responsible for loss / damage to any work, and for insurance of artwork to, from and during the exhibit

Mid Cities Fine Artists merge with Trinity Arts Guild: “TAG in the Morning”

Trinity Arts Guild it pleased to announce the merger of Mid Cities Fine Artists with Trinity Arts Guild. 

Trinity Arts Guild (TAG) will now sponsor 2 demonstrations per month for their members.  Their normal evening meeting and the morning meeting on the second Wednesday of the month.  The morning meeting is open to former mid-cities members, tag members and visitors. 

10:00 am on Wednesday November 9 was our first TAG in the Morning demonstration.   It featured Pam Oldham doing watercolor portraits. The next demo will be Court Bailey on December 14.
