DOUG WALTON’S NEW YEAR’S ENCOUNTER

We still have places in Doug Walton’s  New Year’s Encounter, January 2, 3, & 4, 2015.

If you haven’t signed up yet, call or email us. 817,277.6961

Doug tells me that in this workshop he will be sharing a new approach to creating abstract imagery with tissue paper, latex and freezer paper-and then incorporating these abstract “skins” into painted compositions, “resulting,” says Douglas, “in images of the 21st century.” Sounds fascinating, doesn’t it?
You should bring enough watercolor paper or canvases for each day. You don’t really need to bring anything else but brushes. (Doug likes the Purdy brushes from Lowes.) Doug is providing his pallet of latex house paints.  He asks for $5 a day to cover his cost for paints and the other materials you will need.

ACCOMMODATIONS: The Thornton Inn is a charming and up-to-date bed-and-breakfast a walkable three blocks from the Gallery. Terry and Sunny Graham, the owners and managers, are offering a special rate for those attending the workshop, and the egg rolls are delicious. They’ll even give you a ride to the Gallery if you don’t want to walk.

Holiday Presence 10 opens Dec. 4 at Kettle Art

Holiday_Presence_10

Kettle Art proudly presents our tenth annual holiday gift show “Holiday Presence 10”, opening on Thursday, December 4, 7:00-10:00pm. This exhibit will run through Wednesday, December 24, and will feature small works and unique, artisan-crafted gifts made exclusively by local artists, including Richard Ross, Judith Lea Perkins, Brad Albright, Emily Hawkins, Clint Scism, Megan Petasky, Clay Stinnett, Michael Francis, Jody Pham, Cabe Booth, Corey Godfrey, Richard Andrew Sharum, Justin Clumpner, Larry Carey, Patricia Rodriguez, Nick Glenn, and more, with most pieces under $100.00. In light of the holiday season, all pieces are ‘cash (or charge!) & carry’.

Expect to see plenty of special announcements posted, such as artists on hand doing ‘artsy things’, updates on new items, impromptu parties, and extended hours throughout this exhibit. Be sure to stay ‘in the know’ by checking in often on our facebook event page:  https://www.facebook.com/events/497250047084912/?ref=ts&fref=ts

Kettle Art began its mission in 2005, a year that also introduced Art Conspiracy and The Lollipop Shoppe. There must have been something in the air that year as these three preeminent showcases all evolved into forces to be reckoned with. From the very beginning, Kettle has maintained two overall objectives: to offer local creatives a place to exhibit; and to rejuvenate the artistic roots in the Deep Ellum neighborhood. Throughout the years, we have hosted over 140 exhibitions, in various media, featuring only North Texas artists. This averages out to one show every three weeks, with over $200,000.00 going directly into the pockets of local artists.

Join us during “Holiday Presence 10” as we enter our tenth year of celebrating the amazing local artists who make our art scene one of the most vibrant in the country!

BLUE YULE
IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER
Friday, December 5th | 5:30-7:30

MACblueyule2014

Dear Friends,

As we wrap up our 20th anniversary celebration, including  the second amazing retrospective exhibition, which opened on Saturday, November 8, we are now gearing up for the 19th Annual Blue Yule Artists Party and Ornament Sale onFriday, December 5 from 5:30  – 7:30. Not only is Blue Yule our favorite holiday tradition, it is our most significant fundraiser with all proceeds funding The MAC’s 2015 Artistic and Educational Programming. Eat, drink, mingle, and bid on items in a bountiful silent auction. This year enjoy live music by Denton’s finest bluegrass band Boxcar Bandits and cocktails provided by Bombay Sapphire!

Founded by the late great arts patron Nancy Hanley, Blue Yule showcases a fabulous array of ornaments from emerging and established artists alike. We invite you to create and donate a hand-made ornament – or two or three – for this important fundraising event and help us to continue the services The MAC provides to the Dallas community. Funds raised from Blue Yule benefit all of our educational and artistic events – free and open to the public throughout the year. The MAC rewards those who contribute an ornament with a one-year Artist Level Membership to The MAC ($30 value).

Ornament drop-off dates are December 1-2 from 11am-6pm and December 3-4 from 11am-9pm.
It’s not too late to be good!
Start working on yours today!

Holiday Open House this Sunday

Join me this Sunday afternoon from 2-5pm at my first annual Holiday Open Studio. I’ll have fun music, hot and cold drinks, and good nibbles, while we chill in the 70-degree weather (sounds so good right now).

If you see something you like, there’s no need to only window shop, because I’ve got lots of great items between $20 – 50.  I’ll have some of my new tote bags in stock, plus a collection of brand new mixed media works — already framed and ready to hang. I’ll also have many of my larger paintings 15% off for the open house, so this is your time to catch a great deal.
