El Corazón exhibition opens this weekend at the Bath House

The Bath House Cultural Center presents the 23rd annual El Corazón exhibition, a mixed media exhibition featuring an eclectic collection of art inspired by the heart (El Corazón), an important and inspiring symbol in art.  Jose Vargas curated the exhibition.

This year’s exhibition includes artwork by DFW and Texas artists, and also by artists from Washington, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Oregon, California, New York, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Missouri, and Virginia, as well as artists from Italy, Iran, Mexico, Panama, and Ecuador.

The Bath House Cultural Center and exhibition curator, Jose Vargas, invite visual artists to submit entries for the 22nd Annual El Corazón art exhibition.

Since1993, Mr. Vargas has organized the El Corazón art exhibition in Dallas. This popular exhibition, which has become a beloved annual tradition at the Bath House, gives artists an opportunity to create various artistic interpretations of the human heart. This passionate and eclectic exhibition features a variety of ideas, styles, and concepts inspired by the heart (El Corazón), an important and universal symbol in art.

2016elcorazonArt in all media will be accepted. All concepts and subject matter will be accepted, but the image of the heart must be a prominent element of the artwork. Only work completed in the last three years will be eligible. FREE to enter.

The Bath House Cultural Center is a division of the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs. The center is dedicated to fostering the growth, development and quality of multi-cultural arts within the City of Dallas. The center emphasizes innovating visual and performing arts as well as other multi-discipline events throughout the year. Funding for the Bath House Cultural Center is provided by the City of Dallas, with additional support from the Texas Commission on the Arts.

LOCATION AND HOURS:

The Bath House Cultural Center is located on the eastern shore of White Rock Lake at the end of Northcliff Dr. off of Buckner Blvd. at 521 E. Lawther, Dallas, TX 75218. Hours of operation are Tuesday-Saturday, 12:00 noon to 6:00 PM. The center is open until 10:00 PM on nights with theatre performances. North Texas Printmakers Guild

The North Texas Printmakers Guild is a resource and network of professional artists, vendor, collectors, and dealers based in the North Texas Region who strive to increase exposure for the print arts through collaborations, discourse, gallery shows, hands on educational demonstrations and guild driven exchanges.

Juror: Jeff Hirst

Jeff Hirst is a CA East Bay Area-based artist who has been exhibiting his work since 1987 and has shown extensively across the United States and Europe. Hirst’s work has been shown at The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the McKinney Contemporary in Dallas, Butters Gallery in Portland, OR, and Arte Internazionale in Matera, Italy.  Hirst is the owner of Hirst Printmaking, a printshop and teaching facility in Oakland where research and exploration in experimental print ideas meld encaustic and printmaking.  Hirst also teaches printmaking workshops at national venues and will teach in 2014 at Wagner Studio in OR, Truro Center for the Arts in MA and Center for Contemporary Printmaking in CT.

This exhibition will explore the growing impact and influence of Hispanic art and culture in the United States specifically the grand tradition of hand made prints. The dissemination of information: the spirit of the heart, alternately heavy, whimsical, or sentimental, sacred hearts, broken hearts, hearts of love and hearts of fire….
