“Spatial Planes Are Implied” by Donna Park at Gidden Gallery

spacialplanes

“Spatial Planes Are Implied” by Donna Park
“In recent work there have been layers of horizontal, vertical and diagonals using transparent washes with gradation in color to add depth to the color field. Spatial planes are implied with the lines. The use of line, value and impasto in the composition makes it appear three dimensional. These add textural variations with hard edges that are unpredictable emerging through the surface.”

The Galvez Streetscape, New Orleans, LA

Budget: $15,000
Deadline: 11/4/16

The Arts Council New Orleans, through the City of New Orleans Percent for Art Program, seeks to integrate impactful art into the city’s public space by illuminating the culturally artistic traditions inherent to our community. We believe that public art, serving in the best interest of public good, can be profoundly uplifting, help to build an appreciation for public space, and strengthen the creative, political, intellectual, and cultural tendencies that define New Orleans communities.

New Orleans Fire Department Murals, LA

Budget: $15,000
Deadline: 11/4/16

The Arts Council New Orleans’ Place + Civic Design Department is requesting mural proposals to replace public art installations at two New Orleans Fire Department locations. The department, through the City of New Orleans’ Percent for Art Program, and in partnership with the New Orleans Fire Department, will decommission existing public art banner installations and replace them with contemporary murals at the 801 Girod Street Flying Squad and Basin Street stations. The call is open to experienced artists, artist teams, or community groups working with muralists. Proposals may be submitted for both sites; however, only one artist or artist group will be selected for each site. While the installation should connect the fire department to the larger New Orleans community, themes should reflect broader sentiments that transcend specific references to fire, safety, and the departments’ history. Example sentiments include, but are not limited to: • A deep connection to, and congruence with, the surrounding neighborhood; • Specific historical references from the surrounding community; • Celebration of contemporary art’s transformative energy; • Collective empowerment and representation through creative expression in urban spaces; • Excitement and interest for the community’s current growth and energy; • Celebration of the neighborhood’s identity, and rich heritage.

Impressionistic Oil Painting Workshop for Adults with Chris Brandley

a_ride_through_central_park_chris_brandley_web

9/23/2016 – 9/24/2016

Our 2 days together will include step by step demonstrations, one on one individual easel time, and fun exercises to learn how to loosen up and create bold, colorful paintings.

I use the “Alla Prima” method of painting (working wet into wet) and I will teach you how to layer with transparent and opaque oils, and how to keep your paints from getting muddy. We will work on technique, color mixing, composition, light, and brush strokes. Students will learn to see “Impressionistically” and explore to ability to “suggest” rather than “render” the subject.

Come prepared to have a relaxing, fun-filled learning experience. This class is for all levels of painting from beginners to advanced! it is designed to help you take your painting to the next level. For more information, go to Chris Brandley Fine Art
