LGAA: Birds of a Feather Exhibit and David Tripp watercolor demo May 14

Lake Granbury Art Association presents Birds of a Feather May 11th through May 31st at Shanley House Gallery., 224 N. Travis in Granbury. The theme, of course, is birds.

http://lakegranburyart.blogspot.com/

General Meeting – Monday, May 14, 7:00 P.M. – Shanley House

Arlington Watercolorist David Tripp will be demonstrating Watercolor Design and Technics from conception to completion for the Lake Granbury Art Association (LGAA) at their monthly meeting 7:00 pm Monday, May 14, at the Shanley House Center for the Arts located at 224 N. Travis St. by the Hood County Library.  This is a free event and is open to the public.

Tripp grew up in St. Louis, Missouri where he had been drawing and painting since before he could read.  As a young man he had dreams of being a sports illustrator and drew football players incessantly.  He would use acrylic paint that he had watered down to paint with, trying to create trees and landscapes.

After college, Tripp taught Art History in Arlington’s High Schools for the next 28 years.  During this time he also taught private art lessons at his home studio. Tripp also painted numerous murals at Martin High School in Arlington.

Watercolor became Tripp’s passion. He believes that not only skill, but vision and settings help lend his paintings authenticity.  Tripp loves to paint old buildings and scenes that are no longer relevant in today’s society.  He feels a sense of loss just as he feels the sense of energy transported from the past as he paints these places.  He hopes his painting evokes the same feelings in the people that see his work, bringing back memories of days gone by.

Tripp loves to drive down the back roads of Texas seeking out husks and relics from past generations. His watercolors feature the small-town American places that are fading from our landscape, but not our memories, preserving these sights for future generations. Whether it’s a camera or paintbrush in hand, taking pictures or painting small studies on location en plein air, Tripp is always on the lookout for abandoned service stations, general stores, or old movie theaters. There is beauty and symmetry in these old buildings, just waiting to be captured and celebrated.

Since March of 2017, Tripp has focused most of his artistic energies in pursuit of subjects from the Texas State Railroad in addition to the broader legacy of the American railroad.

Camera Club Meeting

Ever wish you could capture great photographs of beautiful birds? Learn from someone who not only takes great photos of many remarkable Texas birds, he helps to educate visitors to the Acton Nature Center.

One of our youth camera club members, Jake Balmuth, will be the featured speaker at the Tuesday, May 15, 6:30 P.M. at the Shanley House. Jake will talk to us about how to capture great bird photos, the equipment that works well for this type of photography and when, where and how to photograph. He’ll share some of the many tips and tricks he’s learned. As a special treat, he will address  one of his favorite subjects – hummingbirds.

In the past several years, Jake has honed his birding and photo skills from beginner to award winning photographer. He has journeyed with his camera to shoot birds across the State and had his work accepted into many juried shows. He received Honorable Mention awards at the 2014 Friends of Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge Nature Photo Contest and the Granbury Camera Club Photography Show and he garnered first prize, youth division, at the photography competition of the Association Nature et Patrimoine du Val d’ Are in Geneva, Switzerland. Jake, a high school senior, has many other interests including playing the violin, chamber music, astronomy, chemistry, drawing, painting, etc., but photography is a particular passion.

Join us for this program, then venture into the Shanley Gallery to see the art show, which features birds!

OK, can’t resist – let’s flock together to support Jake as he takes time out of his busy graduation schedule to present this program.

See you soon!
Phyllis

*Reminder, this is the last official Camera Club Meeting until summer break. The September meeting is slated for September 11, as a workshop is now scheduled to take place at The Shanley during our regular meeting time.

Granbury: Telise Rodelv demo March 12 on Abstracts; Camera Club meeting March 20 on composition

Lake Granbury Art Association

General Meeting, Monday, March 12

7:00 P.M. at the Shanley House

Mark your calendars!

Local Artist Telise Rodelv will give a demonstration on painting Abstracts with the oil/cold wax technic at the next meeting of the Lake Granbury Art Association. The LGAA meets at 7 p.m. Monday March 12 at the Shanley House Center for the Arts Gallery, 224 N Travis Street, right by the Hood County Library. This event is free and is open to the public.

Rodelv began her journey in art as a photographer, but painting with acrylics soon followed. Rodelv was fortunate to be part of “The Torpedo Factory Art Center†located near Washington DC, which is home to the largest number of working artist studios accessible to the public in the United States.  It was where Rodelv was able to learn different forms of art from a wide variety of Artists.  While there, she made custom tiles, painted murals, worked with textiles and painted a vast array of acrylic paintings.

From art to clothing, the mid-century modern style has always been “near and dear†to Rodelv’s heart. She was born and raised in Norway.  Rodelv has been living in Granbury for the last two years but she has been in the United States since her early twenties.  She has only been working with the oil/cold wax technic she will be demonstrating since her arrival in Granbury.  She is completely self-taught in this process.

Rodelv said “The gift of looking at all the beauty around me, then creating art from that inspiration, still brings me the most joy in my life.  It is my sincere wish that some of the joy and love I feel while creating comes through my art to the viewer, only then will I know I am giving the greatest gift back.”

Hopefully something I talk about will excite you to maybe try something different, (painting the feeling of Spring, Symbols of Spring, or a Spring object).

Granbury Camera Club

Join the group for the March meeting at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 20 at The Shanley. This month we will focus on compositional technique.

We’re hoping for good weather! First, we will gather at 6:30 pm at The Shanley and start promptly with brief videos and instruction. Then, we will head out to practice what we’ve learned. We will walk in Shanley Park and over to Granbury Square to collect photos for our assignment, which promises to be a lot of fun.

We’ll follow up by having you post some of your favorite photos on our Granbury Camera Club Facebook page.

Bonus: Learn a fun post process technique designed to help you hone your composition skills.

While I will lead the brief instruction, I will use some great information from seasoned professional photographers. I also hope that we all help each other to “see” compositional opportunities during our outdoor exercise. Even better – This will be a great opportunity to get to know each other!

If you must arrive late, look for us in the park or on the square. If you call or text me, I’ll tell you where I am. Looking forward to March 20th!

SUPPLIES: #16, #18 OR #20 round brush, a variety of other favorite brushes, possibly a small table or TV tray, 2 full sheets of watercolor paper  22”x30” or 1or 2 large canvases, several samples of acrylic house paints, large bucket for water, paper towels, blue or green wide painter’s tape

SUPPLIES: 12”X16” canvas or board, matte medium or Mod Podge, an old brush for glue, paper towels or baby wipes, any papers you may want to use.

Your Private Collection Presents Impressionist, Roberta Mallard August 26

Your Private Collection Art Gallery Presents

Roberta Mallard, Impressionist

Last Saturday Gallery Night

Saturday, August 26, 5-8 pm

Roberta Mallard will be the featured artist at Your Private Collection Art Gallery as part of Granbury’s Last Saturday Gallery Night. Mallard’s works of landscapes, portraits and animals painted in oil and acrylic have often been selected for national, juried art shows.

I paint light and the color it creates,” said Mallard. “I am greatly influenced by the Impressionists.  The greatest joy of painting is seeing the look on the faces of clients when they see their portrait or have just purchased a painting and hearing the words, “I love it.””

Mallard’s work can be found in Southwest Art in the current August issue, “Women in Art” and in the upcoming September issue “National Emerging Artists.”

Your Private Collection Art Gallery 10th Year Anniversary featuring Soon Y Warren on July 29

Your Private Collection Art Gallery

Celebrates Ten Years of Art and Success

Featuring Artist Soon Y Warren

You Are Invited

July 29 5-8pm

In 2007, Linda Watkins opened Your Private Collection Art Gallery in an 80-year-old Granbury house boasting five rooms of unique, original artworks.  A New Orleans style courtyard garden provided a great gathering spot for art events and wine tastings.

Watkins, original owner, founded the gallery to introduce the unique art of Stacey Watkins Martin, her daughter and current owner—a new medium she invented using her knowledge of science to incorporate minerals, resin, metals and fused glass to create works of glow-in-the-dark fantasy.

Ten years later, the gallery is still a premier destination in Granbury.  Located on the Historic Square on Houston Street since 2008, Your Private Collection displays not only regional talent; but also, international and national artists bringing collectors to events and shows. The three room gallery now represents over 50 artists and has been stated as “a must see” by Southern Living Magazine.

“Our artists display a large variety of mediums,” said Watkins. “Since art preference is different for each individual, the gallery can work one-on-one with the artists to fill any needs a client might have.”

Sharon Markwardt, international, contemporary Western artist agrees. “The owners and staff at Your Private Collection know art, and have assembled an amazing variety of high quality art in many styles.”  Markwardt, with Your Private Collection since 2008, said the “awesome” staff makes all the difference.  “They have always treated me well, and I love the way they interact with clients, both long-standing and potential collectors.”

Award-winning Watercolorist, Bob Cook, said he is “proud’ to hang his work with

“..the best variety of artists.” A long-time artist at Your Private Collection, Cook values the professional staff and how much they enjoy promoting his work.

Chuck Roach, acrylic, Western artist, also appreciates this “..professionally run gallery with experienced salespeople.  I am honored to be in a gallery that promotes not just Western art, but art in general.  Stacey has an eye for talent!”

Your Private Collection Art Gallery commemorates its tenth anniversary with a reception for Soon Y Warren known for detail and luminescence in her work.  Warren, one of the gallery’s original artists, is not only a top, national and international watercolorist, but is also published and highly awarded.  The gallery houses the single largest collection of her work.

                                             Soon Y Warren

Your Private Collection Art Gallery continues to flourish with its historical location in a top-destination, small town—Granbury, Texas.  It continues to draw renowned artists including Soon Y Warren, Sharon Markwardt, Bob Cook, Stacey Watkins, Aaron Thane Tate and Randy Meador.  As well, the gallery frequently introduces new artists and art and hosts events like monthly, Last Saturday Gallery Nights.

Perhaps the most important reason for its success is the combination of art with fun and personal relationships between the artists, clients and guests—the feel is bright, friendly and positive.

Galleries of Granbury—Last Saturday Gallery Night

Because of continuing construction, please use parking lots across from Langdon Center on Pearl St or the parking lot at Library/Shanley House.  A narrated tram is running every 15 minutes from locations from 5:30-7:30pm.  Other venues with met-the-artists include Artefactz, D’Vine Wine, Against the Grain, Dora Langdon Center and LGAA Shanley House.

Your Private Collection Art Gallery Presents Jack Wolfsen

1JackWolfsenad2

YOUR PRIVATE COLLECTION ART GALLERY

Presents Jack Wolfsen at Last Saturday Gallery Night

March 25, 5-8pm

Jack Wolfsen, award-winning sculptor, creates his imaginative works using wood, bronze, steel and cement.  Wall décor, single-standing sculptures and furniture are all part of this successful artist’s work. He is recognized for his work with barbed wire and has received many awards for his creations of old, barbed wire scavenged from Texas Ranches. His tree sculptures begin with barbed wire and are reborn in natural art.

How does Wolfsen feel as he creates each piece? “‘Enjoyment’ is the word that comes to mind,” he said.  “I never get tired of the look on people’s faces when they are in awe and discover that the sculpture is made of recycled barbed wire.”

finishing touches

Life scenes, like “Finishing Touches,” are created with hundreds feet of wire and welds.

One of his sculptures, which contained over 3300 welds, won an award at the Texas State Fair

Art Competition. He has competed in many art shows, including the Rio Brazos Art Exhibition and the Stars Over Texas competition. Wolfsen was recently honored with ‘Best of Show” at the prestigious, juried Breckenridge Fine Art National and International competition and show in Breckenridge, Texas.

Linda Watkins, Co-owner of Your Private Collection, believes that, “Good art should make you feel something. For example, does it evoke excitement, peace, relaxation? Does it remind you of a past experience, a moment or a place? With Jack Wolfsen, one definitely feels a range of emotions.”

Galleries of Granbury—Last Saturday Gallery Night

Come celebrate Wolfsen’s art at Your Private Collection Art Gallery on March 25 as part of Galleries of Granbury’s Last Saturday Gallery Night.

The Galleries of Granbury will host “Last Saturday Gallery Night” (a free art walk) on the last Saturday of each month. All are open until 8pm with “meet the artists”, opening receptions, demonstrations, hors d’oeuvres, wine and music.

A big THANK YOU to all the LGAA members that submitted work for the Spring Show Poster. You will see them hung around the historic square and around town. The decision was difficult and we were looking for work that paired up well visually with another piece. The decision was so difficult that we are going to use TWO posters this year.
