A Priori Painting Exhibition: Jim Lively opening April 22 at Martsolf Lively

A Fresh Start

Martsolf Lively Contemporary

521 N. Interurban, Richardson, Texas 75081

A Priori Series of Paintings

by Jim Lively

April 22, 2017 – July 22, 2017

Opening Reception: Saturday, April 22, 2017, 6 to 9pm

Fashion designer, Paulette Martsolf and artist, Jim Lively brought their creative talents together to create an innovative concept of merging unique and original fashion with contemporary visual art. The concept gave birth to the endeavor known as “Allie – Coosh Lifestyle” and “Martsolf Lively Contemporary” where fashion gracefully and seamlessly collides with fine art. Previously, Paulette owned Allie-Coosh which featured her own creative fashion for twenty-four years located in Snider Plaza. Due to escalating rent, she decided to renovate the building she owned near downtown Richardson which housed her manufacturing. The renovations resulted in an industrial chic venue which now houses both her manufacturing, a fashion boutique, art gallery and artist studio.

Customed TailoredAs the renovations began to unfold, Jim contemplated as to what might be an appropriate theme for a series of paintings to christen the new venue. After some thought, he kept being drawn back to his days in college where he had the luxury of studying philosophy. Jim was always intrigued by the concept of a priori which may be defined as relating to or denoting reasoning or knowledge that proceeds from theoretical deduction rather than from observation or experience.

The first painting in this series is entitled “Fresh Start” which is an abstract piece that incorporates imaginary asymmetrical shapes into what appear to be wood grain slats. By its title, the painting is not dependent upon past experience but instead is forward looking and intended to be somewhat unique. Several of the pieces in the series such as the whimsically titled “Little Black Dress” embraces the theme of the Allie – Coosh Lifestyle and Martsolf Lively Contemporary of where fashion collides with art.

Art Exhibit: Fresh Paint | Hailey Herrera

Screen Shot 2017-02-16 at 12.33.00 PM

Inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi, in this exhibit of abstract watermedia paintings Hailey Herrera integrates freeform lines and shapes; finding her inspiration from nature and her surroundings. Unless she has a specific theme in mind, she begins with some calligraphic lines without a preconceived idea of result. In the process of interplaying lines and shapes spontaneously, an idea emerges and the painting reveals something new to which her intuition and emotion responds. This spontaneous decision process leads to a fascinating and unconventional result.

The work displayed at Elm Street Studio is an ongoing study of experimentation in watermedia abstract painting.  Please join us at Elm Street Studio in Keller, TX for a complimentary reception and meet the artist on Friday, March 24 from 6 to 8 pm. For more information and to see images of Herrera’s work, please visit www.ElmStreetStudioKeller.com. Fresh Paint: Watermedia Abstracts by Hailey Herrera will be on display through April 27, 2017.

Although it is child’s play, bubbles reveal the color spectrum that we cannot see. In keeping with Stuart Allen’s exploration with light and color, he has taken another step in presenting the color spectrum by photographing the amorphic shapes against the sky. Stereotropes: Thomas Menikos and Tony Veronese at Mokah

Stereotropes CardFront Final Version

Stereotropes Opening Reception

Mokah Gallery in Dallas, Texas

Stereotropes is a show that takes a lighthearted look into daily narratives influenced by current and nostalgic pop-culture.  Conversations take place in a visual language where voice becomes color as two voices build a new narrative from opinions and memories. On a most basic level the show looks at the relation of tropes, archetypes and clichés as parallels are drawn between subject matters as conversations flow through times of serious discussion, to joking and outright insult wars.  The images presented are created to be viewed with the use of 3D glasses so the viewer can decipher each voice separately along with seeing each image in all its collaborative and chaotic glory.

Reception runs from 6pm-9pm. Thomas Caleb Menikos and Michael Veronese will be giving an artist talk at 7:30pm.

My Fort Worth: Snapshots of our Communities June 13

Join us on Saturday, June 13th from 6-8 p.m. at the Moudy Gallery at TCU for the My Fort Worth: Snapshots of our Communities exhibition.

Over the course of four weeks ACT United artists engaged Boys and Girls Club participants in photography workshops.  Participants learned about the history of documentary photography, elements of art, and principles of design in order to document their everyday lives and the communities with which they identify. The selection of works by these young artists illustrates common themes evident in a variety of lives. The purpose of this project is to create links across neighborhood lines reminding us of our shared collective experiences. The culmination of their work will be brought together in a photography exhibition showcasing various communities from the city of Fort Worth. This exhibition is in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Fort Worth, WoCA Community Arts Initiative and The Art Galleries at TCU.

deja vu Breiling_Bouncy
Bouncy by Andrea Marie Breiling

The show includes artists: GailPeter Borden, Andrea Marie Breiling, Jessica Drenk, Rachel Hellmann, Dylan Cale Jones, Samantha McCurdy, Irby Pace and Jason Willaford.

Viewers will recognize form, color and motion as motifs in the show. Below artists’ précis of what you do not want to miss. The show comprises of a portion of Borden’s 46 foot 32 piece installation which unquestionably depicts the artist’s architectural influence. Yet, his artwork finds its sole character removed from the conventional concepts of architecture. If Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s Color Theory is used as model to understand Borden’s work, one can say that the impressions of color reaching our brain are molded by three elements: perception, the mechanism of human vision and the way our brains digest data.

Irby Pace, a native of Odessa, Texas, is the artist behind the sold-out and beloved photograph Prada. Featured in this month’s Patron magazine, Pace’s multi-colored smoke clouds are set up in gorgeous open landscapes and spaces and placed systematically to highlight negative space.
deja vu Drenk_Implement 38
Implement 38 by Jessica Drenk

Jessica Drenk works are widely collected and sought after. Drenk’s knowledge and admiration of nature influence her installations and sculptures. Her organic sculpture Implement 38, made of hundreds of pencils, show her tremendous talent when it comes to craftsmanship and her inspiration from systems of information.

Samantha McCurdy’s eye-catching Samantha McCurdy SS15 installation will immerse visitors in a multi-sensory experience. McCurdy originally from Philadelphia, is a local favorite, bringing what was inspired by an accident into a sensual playful artwork with fashion notes.

Andrea Marie Breiling’s series of large scaled paintings are decidedly choreographed and composed over time. In Bouncy, viewers can trace through her several layers the deliberately considered steps made during its creation. “Composed of explosive gestures, garish colors, acidic overtones, and gritty surfaces, they are dark and moody like the night, but radiant and charged like the blood orange moon.”

The newest works by Jason Willaford, America and Guilt Quilt (edition 3 of 3 still available) explore his most recent ideas on evolution and process; multidimensional objects are transformed into topographic images. The public is invited to attend an opening reception starting at 6:00 PM on May 16, 2015.

Chris Panatier, The Promise, at Wall Gallery

chris panatier
SATURDAY, MAY 16, 2015 5PM-8PM
Preview THE PROMISE by artist Chris Panatier at WALL Gallery in the Dallas Design District. Utilizing rich bright oils and abstract layers, Panatier creates gracefl movement with color on canvas and palate knife.  Motivated by music, the artists artistic flow is characterized by the variability of his series and remarkable depth of which he says comes about through an intense painting process.  Chris revisits a bold technique in his latest body of work THE PROMISE on exhibition at WALL Gallery through June 13, 2015.  Join us for an evening of art and conversation at WALL on Dragon.
Chris Panatier
Chris views music as the fuel for everything he does. He doesn’t think of it as ambient noise or light-hearted entertainment, but rather as an essential element of life. Chris credits his love of music (especially extreme metal) for bringing his art to where it is today. As his passion for music deepened over the last five years or so, so did Chris’s commitment to forcing himself to broaden his imagination, creativity and technical skill. The effort put forth by some of Chris’s favorite bands stood as an example for him and where he would commit to take his art. Chris’s art occupies three distinct genres: heavy oil abstracts and figurative oil work that have been exhibited on many occasions and album art for metal bands in the U.S., U.K., Finland, Sweden, Portugal, Brazil, Italy and Denmark.
Chris is self taught but looks up to and is influenced by Michael Borremans, Jeremy Geddes, Jenny Saville, Linde Martin, JMW Turner and many more.
Chris’s latest series of abstract oil paintings entitled “The Promise” encompasses his attempt to fix emotion in visual form directly onto the canvas.
Chris was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. He has been a trial lawyer for fifteen years, a drummer for five years, retired from amateur rugby for three years and father to a cherub for one year.

The Salon features plein air paintings from many of the best painters working today.

After careful thought and consideration the jury has selected 202 paintings by 82 artists representing 16 states in this years show!
