José Ignacio Alvarado: Venezuelan Sculptor exhibit opens March 17 at Frisco Fine Art

Frisco Fine Art is excited to bring the work of Venezuelan sculptor José Ignacio Alvarado to North Texas. Please join us for an opening reception and to meet the artist on Saturday, March 17, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Alvarado, an architect and designer, was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1951. Throughout his distinguished career, he has been a university professor, the author of Arquitectura para todos (Architecture for All), a columnist at Diario Los Andes and a critic for Artefacto magazine. He has also taken part in ecological projects for zoos and botanical gardens.

Alvarado creates his sculptures out of metal ribbon, incorporating the space around the sculpture into the piece. The dance of the ribbon in the air creates a flowing figure which, when combined with color, results in a spiritual response from the viewer.

“Throughout my career as an architect, I satisfied people´s need for functionality. However, I have come to understand that mankind also needs to feel spiritual satisfaction, which has to be sought. This search is the focus of my work.”

Alvarado´s artwork has been exhibited in the U.S., Venezuela and Aruba.

Ethiopian Artist Abebe Zelelew at Frisco Fine Art

Frisco Fine Art welcomes acclaimed artist Abebe Zelelew, whose extraordinary mixed media exhibit “O Come Let Us Adore Him: First Fruit” is on display through January 7.

Zelelew’s mission, to capture the emotion and endeavors of the people in his native Ethiopia, is both skillfully and artfully accomplished in his unusual wood carvings, which have a long tradition in African art. While his carving gestures bring him closer to the toiling men and women of his homeland, painting the carved shapes allows him to add light and color to their lives. The result is vivid depictions of Ethiopian culture.

For more information, call the gallery at 214-872-1917. Frisco Fine Art is located at 7227 Main Street, Frisco, Texas 75034.

“Flow”: Fluid Abstracts by Mary Galbraith opens June 17 at Frisco Fine Art

Mary Galbraith

Frisco Fine Art welcomes local abstract artist Mary Galbraith in the exhibit “Flow”, from June 17 to July 1. A reception to meet the artist will be held on Saturday, June 17, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The exhibit will showcase her most recent work: stunning, fluid acrylic paintings that evoke both calm and movement. Galbraith has a solid foundation in nearly every medium. As early as high school, she was participating in painting workshops throughout Texas and became an accomplished photorealistic artist. Now an advocate for experimentation, she broke from the tight constraints of photorealism to explore the looseness and abandon of fluid acrylics.  “Now that I’ve finally stepped out of my self-imposed box, I’ve never felt more free.”

Fee (Jury Fee): $30.00
Event Dates: 11/18/2017 – 11/19/2017

The Las Artistas Art & Fine Craft Show, now in its 48th year, is a popular pre-Thanksgiving event, attracting an upscale audience of arts and crafts collectors and enthusiasts from El Paso, TX, Las Cruces, NM, and beyond. This small, artist-produced show is strictly juried, catering to affluent and savvy buyers. Booth fees are very reasonable and include electricity, reported art and fine craft sales are consistently strong, and the event has a friendly, easy going atmosphere. All booths will be located INSIDE and will be 10×10 or 10×15! To attract even more buyers, the show will feature art and craft demonstrations, live music, and creative cuisine from food trucks.

Las Artistas is working with a professional marketing agency with arts and crafts event expertise to promote the show and is updating its website to provide exhibitors with additional exposure. El Paso is known as a community that supports, promotes and funds the arts. In fact, our extensive advertising budget is funded in part by the Texas State Commission on the Arts and the City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department.

This year, we are having a new section that we are calling Next Generation. This section of artists will be composed by local children under the age of 18. They will have a table displaying their pieces. This is part of an effort to build the art community in the area.

Don’t miss this opportunity to sell your work in a fun, festive environment!

Christina Yielding at Frisco Fine Art

Christina Yielding

Frisco Fine Art welcomes local modern artist Christina Yielding on Saturday, May 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Then, on Sunday, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., we will celebrate Memorial Day with live painting demonstrations by Christina. Refreshments will be served.

Christina began painting 15 years ago. Her innovative techniques for creating her mixed-media paintings include using a variety of scrapers rather than brushes. Painting solely on wood, Christina builds a custom frame around every gorgeous piece. Her work has been featured in both solo and group shows throughout  the Dallas-Fort Worth area. “The boundless and infinite nature of this work frees my imagination and silences my thoughts to allow for happy accidents infused with a measure of grace that influence the finished project.”

For more information, call the gallery at 214-872-1917 or visit www.friscofineart.com. Frisco Fine Art is located at Stonebriar Center, on the upper level next to Dillards.
