LuminArté Fine Art Gallery is Presents: “Geometric Abstractions” May 21st-July 2nd 2016 – Opening Reception – May 21st 7-10:00pm

Geometric Abstraction is a form of abstract art based on the use of geometric forms sometimes though not always, placed in non-illusionistic space and combined into non-objective (non-representational) compositions. “Geometric Abstractions” comprises works by three artists, featured artist Paul Lorenz, Judith Seay and Angelo DeFilippo.

Artist Talk with Paul Lorenz – May 22nd at 3:00 pm will provide insight into his Graphite drawings from his years studying architecture, his drawings depict abstraction in its purest form, geometry. Paul was born in Chicago and studied oil painting at Art Institute of Chicago and the University of California, Berkeley and later the International School of Art in Italy (under Nicolas Carone and Irving Petlin).

Dream-FinalSmall

In Greek mythology, Mnemosyne was the personification of memory in Greek mythology. She was a Titaness, the daughter of Uranus and Gaia; and through her bond with Zeus, she was known for being the mother of the nine Muses. The exhibition, Mnemosyne is a sequel to the 2014 international figurative exhibition, Muse; and in this selection, the artwork encompasses the full spectrum of figuration, including Art Nouveau, Pop Art, Realism, Surrealism, Expressionism and Synthetic Cubism in the media of photography, sculpture, drawing and painting.

For many, figurative art evokes a certain kind of sentiment or emotional response. We are inspired by our memories and experiences, even in their abstraction; since the human brain tends to reconstruct the events of one’s life into an overall gestalt or narrative perception. We cannot help but relate our subjective experience to something tangible; and the most physical, personal reference is our own body. We relate to each other in a similar way, finding common connections by nurturing a sense of empathy. Figurative art can inspire this concept of connectivity, which draws upon our memories, our emotions and our life experiences. How we relate to art together as an audience can inspire social, political and cultural movements, yet can alternately restrict popular sentiment, as witnessed in the use of figurative art by totalitarian regimes and through other forms of propaganda. In this exhibition, we strive to free ourselves from restrictions and to view the liberating potential of art through the imitation of existence as inspired by the human form.

LuminArte Presents Represented Artists, New Works

"Undersea Eruption" by Lee Ables

“Undersea Eruption” by Lee Ables

LuminArte presents is an exhibition showcasing new works by represented artists as well as a selection of gallery favorites. In addition, we are presenting a roster of new artists to the Dallas art scene alongside a wide range of local talent. This all-encompassing presentation of artists from 25 countries opens on November 9th, with a reception from 7-10pm; and many artists will be in attendance. The exhibition runs through December 7th; both the exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Alongside Texas based artists, career US artists combine with esteemed international artists in this mega-showcase of multimedia expression. Many of the participating artists will be revealing their latest works in this must-see exposition of monumental international talent, with artists representing the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, Portugal, France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Poland, Latvia, Russia, China, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Mexico, Jamaica, Cuba, Iraq, Iran, Israel and India.

LuminArte is pleased to introduce the artwork of internationally acclaimed artist, Paul Lorenz to the DFW Metroplex. With an education in Bauhaus architecture and fine art, Paul depicts abstraction in its purest form, geometry. Bridging the principals and immediacy of painting, drawing and sound with the logic and detail of architecture, Paul’s artwork becomes defined by his multi-disciplinary process of expression. “Abstraction is not a style, but a state of mind…a way of thinking about action, time and circumstance, confidence and risk-taking, boldness and subtlety.”

A special presentation of paintings by Lee Ables will be on view, honoring his life’s work. Lee spent much of his life in Hawaii, as reflected in his bright, colorful abstract paintings that often depict volcanic activity in vibrant, undersea eruptions. Lee spent his later years in Arizona, where he recently passed away. He will be greatly missed; and we have been honored to represent his work at LuminArte.
