In celebration of The Creative Arts Center of Dallas’ (CAC) 50th Anniversary, Friends of the Dallas Public Library (FODPL) offer an exclusive juried show only to CAC members.

There is no entry fee.  Images are not requested.  CAC membership is required.  The artist is limited to one entry.  Collaborative works by two or more artists working together may be submitted as one entry with the lead artist being a member of the CAC.
The submitted work must be sculptural (three dimensional) and express a literary theme.
Sculptures many be of any media within the dimensions of 18 inches wide, 18 inches high and 18 inches deep.  The weight limit is a maximun of 10 pounds.

Entires for the exhibition will be received on Sunday, July 31, 2016 from 2-4 pm

at the fourth floor of the Dallas Central Library.  The sculptures will be returned for pick-up on Sunday, August 28, 2016 from 2-4 pm at the fourth floor of the Dallas Central Library.

 

The FODPL’s Gala Commitee, co-chaired by David DeSalvo and John Marcucci, directors of Haley-Henman Gallery, juries the exhibition.

Four Honorable Mention at $50 each
The top 24 will be awarded $50 each and entered into a silent auction at the annual FODPL fall benefit.  Each artist will receive 50% of the auctioned price.
The annual fall dinner supports the educational programs of the Dallas Public Library. The “Everybody Needs Friends Gala” celebrates the 65th Anniversary of the Friends of the Dallas Public Library.  It is wonderful to have a friend like the Creative Arts Center of Dallas as they celebrate their 50th Anniversary.

CAC’s Empty Bowls Jan. 14

Come join Art After 5 as we travel to CAC (Creative Art Center of Dallas) to again paint bowls for the Empty Bowls program or plates for the CAC Blue Plate Special fundraiser . The CAC will be celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this year. Bring your creative side!! You do not need to be an artist to paint but if you see some styles you may want to copy – bring ideas with you.  THIS IS ALWAYS FUN ! !  Come dressed casually, wear comfortable shoes because we will be sitting in the Clay Dept. painting.

We will be painting the bowls/plates in Building B – right-hand building when you park in the parking lot.  Please enter Building B & go through the Ceramics Department & into the Clay Department.

CAC is a 501(c)(3) non profit corporation & was a Art After 5 beneficiary for 2012, 2013 & 2015.

Option 4 – Raining Cats & Dogs! Your own colorful custom pet portrait made from a photograph as an oil painting on canvas by CAC Painting Instructor Dave Kramer.

Mixed Media Painting Class with Katherine Baronet – 7 weeks

This studio painting class is for intermediate students. Students will learn how to develop and work from concepts including text, imagery and symbolism. Students will work with acrylic archival mediums and develop a visual dialogue. Students will leave with an understanding of layering, glazing, multi-dimensional collage, masking and pattern fields. The first day of class students will begin working from poetry and text, so bring a poem or text of some kind that you find profound.

CAC 2015 Annual Membership Exhibition – deadline July 6

Creative Arts Center of Dallas is now accepting submissions for our 

2015 Annual Membership Exhibition. In this juried exhibition our panel will be looking for the most exceptional of member work in all mediums. CAC members are invited to submit up to three images of original 2D or 3D artworks created within the last two years for consideration.  

Submission Deadline: Monday, July 6th 6 pm

Opening Reception: Saturday, August 8th 5 pm – 8 pm

ELIGIBILITY: All persons with memberships valid through June 2016 are eligible to submit artwork.  Entrants must be or become members of the Creative Arts Center of Dallas at the time of submission.  Entrants may become a member or renew current membership online, via phone, or in person.  A One (1) Year Individual Membership is $45 or $35 for Seniors, Educators, and Students.

 

ENTRY FEES: The entry fee is $45 for up to three images per artist to be submitted online or the CAC office on a CD. This includes either three images detailing one piece of artwork, or three images of three different artworks.

DALLAS: The City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs announces the workshop The Business of Art: Public Art 101 for emerging artists interested in pursuing opportunities in public art. The workshop takes place Saturday, September 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary (The MAC), 3120 McKinney Avenue, Dallas, TX 75204.Tickets are $25 in advance / $35 at the door, and include lunch and seminar resource materials. Tickets can be purchased in advance at eventbrite.com or by calling 214-914-1099. The program is funded in part by The Bowdon Family Foundation, City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, Texas Commission on the Arts and ArtNewsDFW.com.

Public Art 101opens with a presentation about the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs Public Art Program, which includes information about submissions, proposal development, the selection process and contracting. A panel discussion will take place after lunch featuring presentations about public art opportunities by organizations, neighborhood associations and private institutions.

Speakers during the morning session include, Artists Brad Oldham, Carlos Donjuan and Art Garcia. Representatives from the Public Art Committee for the City of Dallas, John Spriggins and Aja Martin, and City of Dallas Public Art Manager, Kay Kallos, Ph.D. will also lead presentations.

The afternoon session provides information about additional public art opportunities with presentations by Pastor Demetri Cotton of the Goodwill Baptist Church Public Art Program, Aurora founders Joshua King and Shane Pennington, David Lyles with the Fort Worth Avenue Development Group’s Spare Parts Public Art Program, and Jeremy McKane with the Jeremy McKane Gallery. Resource materials will be available for participants at the conclusion of the workshop.

Public Art 101 is part of the Business of Art workshop series presented by the Dallas Art Dealers Association (DADA) in partnership with the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, Creative Arts Center, McKinney Avenue Contemporary (The MAC), and the North Texas Business Council for the Arts. Proceeds from these events, in part, benefit the Edith Baker Art Scholarship Fund.

CREATIVE ARTS CENTER
