Art Here Lately at the Dallas Arts Revue

JR Compton styles his DallasArtsRevue.com as “Dallas’ Oldest & Largest Online Art Magazine Of, By and For Dallas Artists.” His reviews are in his words: “colorfully-illustrated and spiritedly-opiniated“, but know that he is really a stauch supporter of local artists.

A regular feature is Art Here Lately, a photo- and humor-rich review of local art and artists. The latest iteration covers four exhibits:

The Fall Open Studios at the Continental Gin Building

A Celebration of Color at the Bath House Cultural Center

José Vargas Retrospective at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center

Jeff Baker & Vincent Falsetta at Conduit Gallery

Don’t miss this! Plus all the archives are also online for you to browse through.

Historic Continental Gin Building Opens Doors to Showcase the Work of 40+ Artists

continenalginBWlogo
The Continental Gin Building (CGB) will open its doors to the public Friday, November 6th from 6-10 pm and Saturday, November 7th from 2-8 pm for an open house showcasing the work of 44 diverse artists.
Guests are invited to enjoy abundant wine, treats, and live music by the Felix Flores Band.  The 127-year-old building is known as the oldest art community in Deep Ellum. For almost 30 years the CGB has been the home for a community of diversified artists including: craftsmen, film producers, painters, photographers, designers (clothing, accessories, interior), and more. It has grown to 65 tenants who create and collaborate within the historic walls. They are individual artists, under one roof, inspiring each other through an interactive community.
About the CGB:
For over two decades, artists have occupied the Continental Gin Building, making it one of the oldest creative communities in Dallas. At least twice a year, the studios are open to the public, each Fall and Spring. The Continental Gin Company was built in 1888 by Robert S. Munger, housed in a series of brick warehouses along Elm Street and Trunk Avenue. The company was closed in 1962, as Deep Ellum went through several transitions. In 1982, local real estate developer John Tatum purchased the property and spaces first began being rented to artists, thus establishing the Continental Gin Building as one of the oldest art communities in Dallas. It now houses a mix of accomplished professionals, soon-to-be-discovered and the as-yet undiscovered hopefuls, who are all diligently pursuing their talents whether that be apparel design, graphic design, photography, sculptures, film, painting, glasswork or more.
