31st Annual Materials: Hard + Soft National Contemporary Craft Competition and Exhibition

The Greater Denton Arts Council proudly presents the 31st Annual Materials: Hard + Soft National Contemporary Craft Competition and Exhibition. Recognized as one of the premier craft exhibitions in the country, Materials: Hard + Soft began in 1987 and was originally initiated by area artist Georgia Leach Gough. The exhibition celebrates the evolving field of contemporary craft and the remarkable creativity and innovation of artists who push the boundaries of their chosen media. Approximately 70 works will be selected by an esteemed juror for exhibition at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center in Denton, Texas.

Entries may be submitted via our online application form through September 29, 2017 (11:59 PM). A downloadable 2018 Prospectus is also available for entries submitted via physical mail or in person to the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center. 

AWARDS
The Greater Denton Arts Council will provide Juror Awards in the amounts of $1,000, $750, $500 and $250. Winners will be determined by the juror and will be announced at the opening reception of the exhibition on February 2, 2018.

ELIGIBLE MEDIA
Works produced in any of the craft media: clay, fiber, glass, metal, paper, wood, or any combination of craft media, are acceptable. Entries must be the complete work of the submitting artist. Kits or commercially designed works will not be accepted. All work must have been completed within the past two years (2015-2017) and not previously exhibited at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center. 

NUMBER OF ENTRIES + ENTRY FEE
Each artist is limited to three (3) entries. There is a $40 (USD) non-refundable fee, for up to three (3) entries. Payments must be submitted online at the time of application.

SIZE LIMITATIONS
All work must be ready for installation. Submissions are restricted to a weight limit of no more than 75 pounds. GDAC reserves the right to exclude any entry that presents complex installation or assembly problems.

Call for Artists: 53rd Annual Lakewood Art Show

Artists age 18 years and older are invited to submit up to two entries in the 53rd Annual Lakewood Art Show. Art intake is on Saturday, April 22 from 10 am – 4 pm at the Lakewood Branch Library. The $15 per item entry fee is waived for members of Lakewood Library Friends (LLF). Memberships are available at the door.

An opening reception for artists and their guests will be held on the evening of Monday, May 1.

McKinney Juried Art Competition & Exhibition – $10,500 in Prizes

The City of McKinney and McKinney Performing Arts Center is currently seeking submissions to our 6th Annual ‘Unique by Nature’ Juried Art Competition and Exhibition. This event was created to build a public and permanent art collection for the McKinney Performing Arts Center located in Historic Downtown McKinney.

Deadline: March 17,2017

Cash and purchase prizes totaling $10,500 will be distributed as follows:

  • One large scale work will be awarded an $8,000 Purchase Prize and will become part of MPAC’s permanent and public art collection. Eligible pieces must be 36″ or more in one dimension. To be considered for the Purchase Prize, artists must submit an online application. There is a $25 application fee to submit 3 works. All fees will be applied to prize pool and scholarships.
  • $2,500 in prize moneywill be divided among 5 works of art chosen by the judge including one Young Artist Award. Size restrictions apply. Artists interested in submitting work to be considered for the Cash Prize must deliver their submissions in person on Saturday, March 25. There is a $20 application fee to submit 2 works. All fees will be applied to prize pool and scholarships.

Other Considerations:

  • 2017 Purchase Prize submissions will be juried by a four-person panel. 10 semi-finalists will be selected in consideration for the Purchase Prize.
  • Prize winners will be chosen by 2017 judge, Robert Jessup, Chair of the Department of Studio Art at UNT, College of Visual Arts & Design.
  • ‘Unique by Nature’ is open to professional and emerging artists who are legal residents of the United States and at some point have been residents of Texas.
  • Entrants must be at least 17 years of age by May 2017.
  • Artists may price their work for sale during the exhibit. Sales will be handled by MPAC minus a 25% commission. All commissions collected by McKinney Performing Arts Center will be used to purchase additional art work or to fund future competitions.
  • Staff and volunteers will use care in handling the work; however, we are not responsible for losses or damages. Artists may consider insuring their work based on its value.

VAGF Call for entries – Fresh Start 2017

This is a call for all artists to submit their artworks for our upcoming show titled Fresh Start for the year 2017 to be held from February 19th through March 26th.

Entries will be accepted in the categories of Painting, Drawing, Photography Mixed Media, and Sculpture. Subject matter is open. All works should be artists original creation. If interested, send completed submission form with up to 3 images of your artworks as JPEG to exhibits@vagf.org for consideration by Sunday, February 5th. Include dimensions, medium, title and sale price for each submitted work. Please make sure that submitted artworks haven’t previously been exhibited in a VAGF Show.

GREAT CAUSE AND WONDERFUL ARTIST

The Guild is proud to assist John Egeland, one of its members, in a project we all feel is very worthy. John is a strong advocate of the homeless population in the Dallas area and donates much of his time to the cause. In addition, as part of our fall show Creme de la Creme, John is donating all profits from the sale of his beautiful painting, “Forsaken”, to the Dallas Life Foundation.

The story of Dallas LIFE starts with a man named Reverend Robert J. Key, one of the founders of the Union Gospel Mission in 1949. With Dallas’ homeless population growing in the post war years, Reverend Key left UGM to begin establishing the Dallas Rescue Mission. It was this endeavor that would become Dallas LIFE, now the largest homeless shelter in North Texas.
Dallas Rescue Mission opened its doors in 1954 in a small storefront location on Commerce Street. There, Rev. Key would minister to the men who came to him nightly for shelter and a hot meal. Rev. Key and his volunteers kept the shelter open every night for the next 25 years.

Please keep in mind that 3.5 million people in the US will be homeless this year. One third of those will suffer from chronic mental illness and 1.4 million will be children. These are staggering numbers that we should all want to see decrease rapidly. They need our help and we should all do our part to end the struggle for at least some of these.

Will you please help John, and more importantly the homeless community, by purchasing this beautiful work of art.

Submit entries  August 5 – September 6, 2016

This annual event is right around the corner. Entries can be submitted between Aug. 5 – Sep. 6, 2016. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older and residents of the City of Keller or the Keller ISD area. All art media is permissible, and must be original to the artist. No copyrighted materials or characters please.

The entry fee is $20 for the first 1 or 2 pieces, a second or third piece can be submitted for $10 each. Obtain your entry forms at www.cityofkeller.com/publicarts Future Exhibits or at the reception desk of Keller Town Hall, 1100 Bear Creek Parkway. Please submit your completed entries no later than Sep. 6, 2016 via email to, publicarts@cityofkeller.com, standard mail, Keller’s Got Talent, P.O. 2015 Keller’s Got Talent

45 local artists have entered the 2015 “Keller’s Got Talent” Art Show and are showcasing their artistic talents at Keller Town Hall, 1100 Bear Creek Parkway, Keller TX 76248.

First and second place awards will be presented in 8 categories, inclusive of Oil Painting, Water Media, Pastels/Drawing, Ceramics, Sculpture, Photography, Mixed Media and Jewelry with and overall “Best in Show” awarded. All are invited and encouraged to attend this special reception on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 7 to 9 pm as The Keller Public Arts Board celebrates it’s local artists and continues to promote and grow the arts in Keller. Call for Artists – Keller’s Got Talent

The 2015 Keller’s Got Talent Art Show is upon us and entries are being accepted from City of Keller and Keller ISD residents age 18 and older. All forms of art are accepted (some restrictions apply) and must be one-of-a-kind, original artwork done by the person submitting it. The entry fee is $20 for the first 2 pieces of art and submission of 1 or 2 more pieces can be made at $10 per piece. Artists may list their work “for sale” but are not required to do so. All submissions will be judged and Honorable Mentions in categories and three Best in Show will be awarded. This is not a juried competition. Richardson Civic Art Society 50+ Show Competition and Sale
