We are pleased to announce Open Call for our residency program at AIR/HMC, Budapest, Hungary in 2017

Subject: My Life with a Dog” or “Environmental Project”.

Deadline: November 15, 2016

___Session 1: Tuesday, May 16 – Tuesday, June 6, 2017

___Session 2: Tuesday, June 13 – Tuesday, July 4, 2017

5 artists will be accepted for each session.  Jury selection will be on November 18, 2016.

Call for Artists to participate in an environmental project

Juried Art Competition, Dallas, Texas / Budapest, Hungary

Size:  8.5 X 11 (envelop or box size max. 9 X 12 inch)

All submitted, high-quality art work will be exhibited and tour in Texas and Hungary in 2016.

This exhibition is juried and curated by HMC’s Board of Directors.

Who is Eligible:
The competition is open to all visual artists and photographers.

All media including, but not limited to, Acrylic/Oil, Mixed Media, Pastel, Colored Pencil, Graphics, Water Media or other Layered Media, Photography,  and Video Art.  No Craft.

Artworks will be retuned after the exhibitions and programs in December 2016.  

About the project:

The new project is to explore solutions to environmental disasters as dying trees, pollution, environmental issues.  The project will leverage local and national artists artistic works to generate cross-cultural, cross-border civic engagement in community-led reforestation projects.  This exhibition will encourage and support reforestation projects organized in partnership with cultural institutions, like churches and women’s centers.  Exhibitions, artist talks dates and places will be organized later for 2016.

When Johann Gutenberg invented movable type books it resulted in an explosion of art.  Now the book tradition is undergoing another change, as e-books read online are becoming more common.  What will the future hold in terms of reading, writing and the book as an object?  The usage of computers are evolving rapidly, going from not-so-intuitive, and sometimes even counter-intuitive, interaction through external devices like a computer mouse or a trackpad, to soon being controlled by gestures, whole-body movements or facial expressions.  Is this the end of books as we know it?  What impact will the digital age have on the usage of paper, books, libraries?  The Hungarian Multicultural Center invites artists exploring the wide spectrum of book art, small-press art, mail art, mixed media artist’s books, to submit their work to the 3rd edition of the international group exhibition Library Thoughts, held in Barabas Villa Gallery, Budapest, August 27 – September 10, 2013.

Deadline: 03/15/13
Entry fee: $35

1. Send the application form, artist resume/CV, artist statement, 1 – 3 still image work samples OR short video (YouTube) by email and application fee by PayPal ($35)
2. Notification letter will be sent on 03/20/13.
