Artist Statement….
My intention with my art/paintings is to explore the most significant connections in my life, those that have influenced
me and made the deepest impressions.
Cultural connections have had a significant impact on my life, my way of thinking, the way I choose to live and my ideas about myself. My experiences in Asia especially have influenced my ideas about myself, who I am and how I live my life.
In my current body of work, I am exploring the idea of those connections that have most influenced me, how cultures can co-exist, maintaining a distinct points of view, coming together with a voice that combines the traditional and the contemporary, in ways that honors and values both.

Encaustic and Paper, beyond collage Encaustic and paper are an incredibly versatile match. This workshop will begin to explore the possibilities of combining a variety of paper types and weights with encaustic medium and paints, as well as pigment sticks and other materials, to create works with a optical depth and luminosity. We will work with dipped and formed papers to create 3 dimensional elements on the surface of our work from just paper and encaustic without the use of armatures. Encaustic imparts an extra strength to paper that will some times even allow for the work to be hand sewn in areas. We will begin by making a few of our own papers through various processes such as rust printing and ink drawing. Students will be encouraged to also bring a variety of found papers and other materials to include in their work. Students do not need prior experience with encaustic painting, but general art making experience is encouraged.
