10th Biennial Artists’ Book Competition- deadline Dec. 15

The purposes of the competition and exhibition are: to encourage the development of students’ work in the medium of Artists’ Books, to foster the creation of Artists’ Books, to reward excellence and creativity in the Artists’ Books, and to build the collection of Artists’ Books in the UNT Libraries’ Special Collections.

Entries will be accepted in two categories: a Student Purchase Prize category and a Non-Student category. One winner will be selected from each category, but the $400 purchase award will only be given to the winner of the student category. Honorable mention awards will be given in each category at the discretion of the jurors. Additional entries from both categories may be selected for purchase dependent upon availability and budget restrictions of UNT Special Collections.

Eligibility Requirements:

Any Artists’ Book created within the last two years is eligible. All media are welcome, although submitted work may not exceed 6′ in any direction. All entries meeting this eligibility requirement will be displayed in the Willis Library Forum from January 8–March 9, 2018, and a reception for all of the entries and winners will be held in February 2018. A maximum of three books may be submitted. There is no jury fee.

Submissions will be accepted December 4 – 15, 2017, 9am – 4pm if dropping on in person.

In November 2016, WoCA Projects is partnering with the Fort Worth Community Arts Center to present its 4th Annual Juried Artists’ Books Exhibition exploring the diversity within the artist book medium, including both traditional book-binded forms as well as (but not limited to) those works that use books as a reference or metaphor to create other conceptual forms. One artist will receive a $500 Purchase Award and their selected work added to the University of North Texas Willis Library’s Rare Books Collection. Jurors: Morgan Gieringer, Head of Special Collections, University of North Texas Willis Library, (Denton, TX), Anne Keefe, PhD, Publications Coordinator, Meadows Museum (Dallas, TX), and author of upcoming book on artists’ books, Lauren Cross, Director/Curator, WoCA Projects (Fort Worth, TX).
Artists must make their submissions through the WoCA Projects website under the “Call for Art” tab. Login to Entrything.com or create an account and then apply to the “4th Annual Juried Artists’  Book Exhibition ” exhibition through the entrythingy.com platform.

$25 for up to 3 entries. $5 for each additional image. A maximum of 5 images total.
Submission will not be juried until entry fee is received.

Mark is bringing a trunk show of brand new bluebonnet and Texas rubber stamps as well as many old favorites. This is a fun and easy project that you can customize for any event and would make a great gift. You won’t want to miss it!  Bring:  dry adhesive(no glue or glue stick), scissors and bone folder.  Optional: different shades of blue ink pads if you have them. ($40)

Get involved and participate in the annual Garden & Artisan Showcase event hosted by Brookhaven Country Club on April 15th, 16th and 18th 2016.  

This is a great opportunity to bring your family, friends and associates together to support our local charity. Established by PGA TOUR Professionals Scott Verplank and Andrew Magee, this non-profit social event has helped thousands of less fortunate children, their families and senior citizens receive counseling and dental care. Over the last twenty plus years, the golf tournament has raised over $1,000,000.00 and the Charity Plant Sale has raised over $50,000 in the past six years. It is through your participation that we will be able to achieve our goals and help fund services so desperately needed.  The Magee-Verplank & Friends Charity Event assists the uninsured and senior citizens of the Farmers Branch and Carrollton community and other metro charities.

We are looking for local artisans to showcase their art on Saturday April 16th  2016. Please provide us with images or description of your art and how it relates to garden life no later than March 15th. Upon acceptance, your booth fee of $75.00 will include a 10×10 space, one covered banquet table, two chairs and 1 boxed lunch (additional lunch can be provided upon request). You may bring you own 10×10 tent or smaller. If you require any electrical, please contact us with details and note that an additional fee may be added. Hours of the event will be 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.  Set up starts at 7:30 am and take down will begin at 6:00 pm.

Upon acceptance, checks are payable to Magee-Verplank Endowment Fund, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Payment will be due by March 31st. Mail to P.O. Box 810831, Farmers Branch, TX 75234 or drop off at the Club and leave at front desk for Monty Worden.

In connection with the 3rd Annual Juried Artists’ Books Exhibition, WoCA Projects and the Texas Artist Coalition (TAC) are hosting an exciting bookmaking workshop taught by exhibiting artist Emily McBurnett, who will teach workshop participants the art of creating accordion-style artists’ books, including basic watercolor painting techniques and associated papers. All materials will be provided; no prior art-making experience required.
Cost: $10/per person
Discount: $5 for TAC members
About Teaching Artist, Emily McBurnett:
Emily McBurnett is a local painter who has been featured at various exhibitions in Fort Worth, and whose work is also included in the Stephen F. Austin Sketchbook Travelling Exhibition and Archive. McBurnett is a senior BFA Painting Major at Texas Christian University (2016′).

Examples might explore the interchangeable use of of mixed-media, painting, drawing, printmaking, fiber arts, photography, sculpture, ceramics, sound, film/video, and installations in the creation or referencing of the book form. Note: the inclusion of text and exact references to traditional books not required.

The juried exhibition will be displayed at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center from December 4-29, 2015

Awards:

The annual Voertman Competition at CVAD is a time-honored celebration of artistic achievement and promise. The Voertman Competition is a juried exhibition open to all currently enrolled CVAD students. Started in 1960 by Mr. Paul Voertman, founder of Voertman’s store, the exhibition is juried each year by an accomplished arts professional and provides students with real-world experience.

Five Years of Collaborations

Print Research Institute of North Texas, P.R.I.N.T, is a fine art press at the University of North Texas College of Visual Arts and Design. This exhibition showcases recent collaborations with accomplished artists, many of whom do not typically work in printmaking, in partnership with Master Printers to translate their ideas into limited edition, hand-pulled fine art prints.

UNT ArtSpace Dallas is located at 1901 Main Street, in the lobby of the UNT System Building. Parking for an hourly fee is available in metered spaces on Main Street and in the Elm Street Garage.
