11 Women Photographers – Chicks Who Shoot – March 24

The Eyes of 11 Texas Women

Tracy Costello, Shari Hunt, Rose Reyes, Nikki Sumrow, Kelle Moulton, Joyce Marshall, Heather Scott, Destiny Sosa, Debbie Collins, Camille Wheeler, Alicia Wells

The Grackle Art Gallery in Fort Worth is doing Spring Gal lery Night right with an All-Women Photography Show, celebrating 11 talented Texas Women Photographers.

The show, Co-Curated by local Texas photographers Kelle Moulton and Alicia Wells, will take place March 24 from 7-11pm.

The show explores the stereotype, the science and the psychology of how women photographers differ from their male counterparts.

The women in this exhibit all take very different types of photographs. They weren’t chosen based on their subject matter, their age, or even their years of experience. They were chosen because their photos grabbed our attention. Their photos engaged us, made us want to know more.

In talking to the women, they all had a story that was influencing their work. Stay-at-home-mother. Working two jobs. Divorced. Single parent. Journalist. College student. Starving artist. Retired. Teacher. Nurse. No one had the same story, or the same photos. Or even the same reason for taking their photos.

On March 24 you are invited to gaze into the eyes of their portraits, get lost in their sunsets, wonder at their macros, and in general celebrate the journey that has resulted in the work you will see in this collection.

This is a one-night-only, free event. Please make plans to stop by as you make the Spring Gallery Night rounds. Enjoy some: lite bites, sweet tunes, and a view of Texas through the eyes of 11 women who call Texas home.

Special thanks to the Grackle Art Gallery, Matthew J. Sacks, Linda Little and really everyone who has worked to make this happen. With very special thanks to Clint Niosi for coordinating the smooth acoustics of musicians: Amanda Hand, Rebecca Jozwiak, Deanna Valone.

Extra in the Ordinary: Sarah Graham Exhibition at Elm Street Studio

Elm Street Studio is proud to showcase the stunning watercolors of Sarah Graham in our January 2018 Solo Exhibition. Discover for yourself why her work has won international recognition and why her portraits are said to capture the spirit of a person. Grahams’ paintings are a response to “real life” challenges, in pursuit of deeper and perhaps more powerful realities – realities made more beautiful by the fact that they have been built on difficulties.

Her work will be on display from January 3 to March 2. Meet the artist in person at our Artist’s Reception, Jan 20 from 7-9pm. Complimentary wine and hor d’oeuvres will be served. A portion of art sale proceeds will benefit the Agape Clinic in Dallas. For more information, please visit www.ElmStreetStudioKeller.com

This WEEKEND at The Cove: Nov. 17-18 — Genesis…Art by Darby LaGrave

Genesis   ….and other works that embrace Life
Art by Darby LaGrave

Friday and Saturday, November 17-18, 5pm-9pm
5pm-9pm, with artist talk at 7pm both evenings

Darby draws inspiration from the expanse of the universe to the fragile creatures around her rural home to create elegant compositions that carry a message of hope, of relationship, of life.
“Genesis is the beginning. There are moments when we have vision, hope, dreams higher than we believe possible.  And yet, what are the possibilities?  What does our hope for the future spring from?  A new beginning, beginning to grow, the dawn of newness, fresh, uncluttered, uninhibited. Rest in the Presence, the hope of a future is yours.  Genesis is the future.”  –Darby
The Cove will be closed Thanksgiving weekend.

Mill No.3 Featuring: Matthew Brinston

Mill No.3
Friday, September 22
7-9pm
At Mill No.3, we value our neighboring small businesses, local community creatives, and influencers.  We strive for our store locations to be spaces of collaboration and creativity, so for the first time, we are turning our Dallas store into a gallery space for a night of art and community, with featured works by local artist, Matthew Brinston.
Brinston is best known for his paintings that explore identity and self-awareness.  His work has been shown at various spaces in Deep Ellum and around Dallas, most recently including BREDA Studio, Ascension Coffee, and the Belmont Hotel.
Brinston has created a new series of paintings exclusively for his collaboration with Mill No.3.  Like most of his work, Brinston’s latest series challenges viewers to question their observations. “My goal is for the viewer to discover more about themselves when they stand in front of one of my pieces. I want them to consider why they respond a certain way, because it’s really just a mirror,” says Brinston of his work.
The art show will be on Friday, September 22 from 7-9pm, located at Turtle Creek Village 3888 Oak Lawn Ave. Suite 108 Dallas, TX 75219. During the event, all art will be for sale.  Guests can enjoy free drinks and light bites as they shop.

Anne’s work also reflects the influence of traditional Japanese art and aesthetics which she encountered during an extended stay in Japan. Anne earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from Austin College and three Master’s Degrees from Yale University: Religion and the Visual Arts, East Asian Studies, and the History of Art. She has taught studio art for 30 years, mentoring and preparing students for higher education and career opportunities in the visual arts.
