Texas Contemporary: Houston art fair Oct. 1-4

texascontemporary
Texas Contemporary’s Fifth Edition Features 60 Galleries and Exciting New Programming & Partnerships

October 1-4, 2015

George R. Brown Convention Center

Special Programs include The Other Mexico, The Haas Brothers, & MarketWorks

Houston – September 25, 2015 – Texas Contemporary returns to the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston’s historic downtown district this October 1 – 4 to build on its years of success as the region’s leading contemporary and modern art fair. New dates, a robust programming schedule, top local and national galleries, and the launch of The Other Mexico will afford the fair and the region’s active arts community new opportunities for engagement with the best in modern and contemporary art from around the world.

2015 VIP PROGRAM
Texas Contemporary will kick off on Thursday, October 1st, in Downtown Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center with an exclusive Preview benefiting the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. Led by Honorary Chairs John and Becca Cason Thrash, the event will feature live music, special performances, and an exclusive First Look at all sixty exhibitors, affording attendees the opportunity to make important acquisitions before the fair opens to the public. The exciting VIP access continues through the weekend with tours of the esteemed private collections of Barbara and Michael Gamson, Bridget and Patrick Wade, Noble Energy, Brad and Leslie Bucher, and Fayez Sarofim.

THE OTHER MEXICO
Texas Contemporary’s fifth edition marks the launch of the fair’s dynamic partnership with The Mexican Consulate in Houston’s Department of Cultural Affairs to present The Other Mexico, soon to be a conduit for contemporary art between Houston and Mexico. Bernardo Paz said “Otherness is what constitutes us…those realities we call cultures and civilizations are elusive.” This innovative program is meant to highlight Mexico City’s ground-breaking arts scene, one that reflects its city’s constantly churning internal dialogue. Houston and Mexico City have long been connected – the roots of Texas patronage span across the state’s southern border into the heart of the booming city. Curated by Mexico City based independent curator Leslie Moody Castro in partnership with Bill Arning, Director of the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH), the presentation will feature seven galleries and project spaces including Yautepec, Anonymous Gallery, Galería Enrique Guerrero, Galería Parque, Diagrama, MARSO, and Casa Maauad, reflecting Mexico City’s rapid materialization as an incredibly unique focal point of the global art forum.

MARKETWORKS
Texas Contemporary is proud to present the fifth edition of the fair’s charity art auction, MarketWorks. This year’s online auction will incorporate the fair’s focus section The Other Mexico to further new relationships with Mexico City based galleries and cultural organizations. The artwork will be donated from the fair’s participating Mexico City exhibitors: Casa Maauad, Yautapec Galeria, and Anonymous, and will be on view at the fair. Sales will benefit three Mexico City based non-profits: SOMA, Cenyeliztli and Aeromoto.

PARTNERS
Texas Contemporary Sponsors J.P. Morgan Private Bank, The Wall Street Journal, and Perrier will work alongside J.P. Morgan Private Bank VIP Lounge Designers Kelie Mayfield and Erick Ragni of MaRS, in collaboration with Houston’s Internum, to ensure an engaging and vibrant space for the exhibition of outstanding art.
