The Advanced Studio Seminar

Fall 2017 – Spring 2018

This seminar is ideal for the artist looking to develop a more advanced, focused and personal studio practice. During this 6 month program, participants will develop a strong, well-considered body of work. Participants will benefit from the influence of various critiques with reputable visiting artists, multiple pier reviews, scheduled community work times at The O’Keefe Studio Center, reading assignments, writing assignments, a professional development crash course, and ongoing conversation and critique with the seminars primary adviser, Michael O’Keefe. This program will culminate with an exhibition highlighting a comprehensive selection of each participants work made during the time of the program. There are no requisites for this program; participants simply must be serious and committed to developing their artistic desires.

Cost: $1,350

What you get:

– Six months of weekly community work time at The O’Keefe Studio Center (36hrs)

– Twelve hours of group critique and discussion with Michael O’Keefe

– Two one-on-one critiques with Michael O’Keefe

– A professional development crash course

– Five 3-hour group critiques with reputable visiting artists

– The benefits of suggested reading assignments and prescribed writing exercises

– Participation in a group exhibition in a unique space in the Cedars neighborhood, south of downtown Dallas, highlighting a selection of each participants body of work.

Participants will meet on four Thursday evenings each month, from 6:00 – 9:00pm,starting in Sept., 2017, at The O’Keefe Studio Center. The program will run through March, 2018. Exhibition in April.  December will be a month off.

On the following dates participants will have group or one-on-one critiques with Michael O’Keefe: 9/7/17, 10/5/17, 11/2/17, 1/4/18, 2/1/18, 3/1/18.

On the following dates participants will have group critiques with visiting artists:10/19/17, 11/16/17, 1/18/18, 2/15/18, 3/22/18.

On the following dates participants will have work time amongst their piers at the Studio Center: 9/14/17, 9/21/17, 9/28/17, 10/12/17, 10/26/17, 11/9/17, 11/30/17,1/11/18, 1/25/18, 2/8/18, 2/22/18, 3/8/18, 3/29/18.

The group exhibition will be held in April, 2018, in a unique location in the Cedars neighborhood, south of downtown Dallas. The exhibition dates and times are yet to be determined.

Interested individuals should submit a short letter of interest (via email), briefly describing their artistic background, their artistic and professional goals and their general hopes for participation in the Advanced Studio Seminar. If it is determined that the interested individual is a good fit for the program, they will receive an invitation to join.

The seminar will have a minimum of 6 participants and a maximum of 10 participants.

Photographing Art Presented by Brad Sharp June 13 in Frisco

Join VAGF members at Expedition Frisco (9073 Berkshire Dr. Frisco, TX 75033) for the monthly meeting.
Tuesday June 13, 7-9PM

Brad Sharp, chair of the Frisco Public Art Board, will present “Photographing Art”. He will share techniques for capturing and editing images to best represent your artwork for reproductions and exhibition entries. Topics include camera settings, lighting, image processing, file delivery, protecting your image, and more.  Participants are encouraged to bring their own camera (phone cameras welcome) and artwork for this hands-on workshop.

We also will have a mini-critique. Bring a piece of artwork (framing not necessary) and it can even be work-in -progress for a friendly feedback.  We will draw for a prize at the meeting for participating Artists.

Celeste McCall will be guiding a critique session during the March 8, 2017 meeting. Everyone is encouraged to bring one or two paintings. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn tips on composition, color, design to make your work sparkle. Celeste has a wonderful way of highlighting the positives while making constructive suggestions for areas that might use changes or improvement. Critiques that are done well spark thought and ideas as well as improvement in your artwork. It is the season for all the big shows. Put your best foot forward. Take time to attend and participate in the March critique.

Activities will begin at 6:30 pm on Monday, January 2nd  at the Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce.  
 
 Program
 
      Critique – Each attendee is asked to bring one or two of their artworks. They need not necessarily be recent works.  The items will be discussed and criticized by the membership.
 
        Planning Session – We will end with a brain storming session to develop ideas for meetings and workshops for the year.  Please bring your suggestions for speakers or workshop leaders through next June.   Contact information should also be included.
 
 Other Business
 
      Painted End Tables   An exhibition of our custom painted end tables has been on display every Saturday at the Grand Prairie Farmers Market.  These tables were raffled off in December.   The net results will be presented at the meeting.
  
AGPA meets the first Monday of each month at the Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce, 900 Conover Street. Meetings are open to the public.  Guests and visitors are welcome at no charge.  Visit our website at www.gpartists.org .

Since1981, Artisan’s has been in the Art Business. Partners are Naomi Brotherton and Pat Kochan, who teach weekly classes and sponsor workshops by Nationally recognized artists. They also rent space to other artists like Maureen Brouillette for classes. Artisan’s plays an active part in the art community by donating a cash award yearly to the SWS Annual Membership Exhibition and has been a meeting place for several groups monthly, such as Art Focus XC; and is a member of the

REFUNDS & CANCELLATION:   For classes held at Artist’s Showplace – If you cancel a class (for any reason) less than 30 days before class, you will lose your deposit.

INDIVIDUAL CRITIQUE SESSIONS: $10 per painting or $50 per hour.  Call for appointment
