The 12th Annual TAC Juried Exhibit

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION – July 15, 2017

EXHIBITION DATES: August 4 – August 27, 2017 RECEPTION: Friday, August 4, 2017

PRIZES:

·             A Solo Exhibition during Fall Gallery Night 2017. Fall Gallery Night is an event that occurs once a year during September. It is arguably our most popular opening of year were we anticipate more than 3000 visitors in a single night.

·             The Iris Wilson Award ($100 prize)

CALL TO ARTISTS: Only TAC members with active accounts may submit up to 3 artworks open to all disciplines with no theme. To learn more about TAC or become a member please click here. All mediums accepted including oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, prints, drawings, mixed media, sculpture, video, installation, photography, and digital art with no size restrictions. The show will occur in Fort Worth Community Arts Center’s premier, 3000 square foot, Front Gallery. All artwork must be original and must not infringe upon any copyright or the rights of any person. The juror is Ann Ekstrom.

ABOUT THE JUROR: Ann Ekstrom is a Fort Worth painter from a family of artists – raised in the art-oriented household of her mother, the late painter and printmaker, Beth Lea Clardy. She earned a B.FA. degree from Texas Christian University, and received additional academic training at the University of Texas at Austin and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Ekstrom’s interests and versatility range from printmaking to watercolor painting to large-scale oils. Her 72-foot painting, Hints of a Life, is permanently installed at Tarrant County College, Southeast Campus. Her paintings are included in corporate and private collections across North Texas. Ekstrom is a popular Fort Worth lecturer and has been featured in the Kimbell Art Museum’s program “The Artist’s Eye.” In addition to studio work, Ekstrom currently works as a painting instructor for Texas Christian University’s Extended Education program. She was recently selected by the office of Fort Worth Public Art for a project at Penrose and W. Vickerin the neighborhood now officially known as “Bomber Heights.” Ekstrom is a long-time promoter of Art in the Metroplex; a steering committee member of EASL (Emergency Artists’ Support League), and was recently a member of the Exhibition Advisory Panel of the Fort Worth Community Arts Center.

ABOUT THE VENUE: Located at 1300 Gendy Street, the Fort Worth Community Arts Center is part of the most architecturally significant museum districts in the United States. The striking modern Herbert Bayer building (with a later O’Neil Ford addition) opened to the public in 1954 as home to one of the most prestigious and oldest collecting organizations in the state of Texas, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. When, in 2002, the Modern moved down the street, the Fort Worth Community Arts Center opened. The building has exhibited world class art and supported the performing arts for more than half a century. The Arts Council manages the FWCAC, provides leadership and funding to local arts organizations through our competitive Grants Program and administers the Fort Worth Public Art program.

SUBMISSION: Work will be juried from images submitted only through the gallery’s online submission. $15 submission fee for up to three pieces. Works will not be reviewed if you are not an active TAC Member. Images must be JPEGs with minimum width/height of 800 pixels, maximum size as 3MB. Do not use spaces or special characters (!@$, etc) in image file names. Video and audio files can be submitted through links. FWCAC reserves the right to reject inaccurately represented work, or incomplete submission.

PRESENTATION: Work must be suitably framed (or sides cleanly finished or painted) and ready for hanging. D-rings should be used for heavy works, wires for works under 5lbs. Drawings, prints, watercolors and pastels on paper must be under Plexiglass. 

DEADLINE: All applications must be submitted before midnight (CMT) on July 15, 2017. FWCAC will notify applicants by July 25, 2017.

SALES: All work will be for sale unless the artist informs the gallery to the contrary. 25% of proceeds from sales will go to FWCAC and the remainder to the artists. 

RECEIVING:  Hand-delivered and shipped work must arrive on July 30th or 31st between 9am – 6pm. Substitutions and late arriving work will not be exhibited. Work must remain for the duration of exhibition. 

SHIPMENT: All shipped work must have a returned mailing label included and must arrive in a package that can be reused for the return shipment. 

REMOVAL:  All hand delivered work must be picked up on Aug 28, 2017 from 9 – 6PM. Works not removed on these days will be placed in storage and released at gallery’s convenience. Any work left for 60 days after the assigned pick up date becomes the property of the Arts Center.

IMPORTANT DATES:

·         July 15, 2017 – Deadline for submission

·         July 25, 2017 – Notifications emailed to artists

·         June 30 + July 31, 2017 – Delivery of artwork

·         August 4, 2017 – Opening Reception, 6 -9 pm

·         August 27, 2017 – Closing

·         August 28, 2017 – Show comes down, pick up or repacked for return shipment

USE OF IMAGES: Any image submitted may be used for non-commercial, marketing or promotional purposes directly related to this show. This use may include in any publications, printed materials, advertisements, or electronic media. Copyright and all other rights remain that of the artist.

LIABILITY: This document represents a contract between the Fort Worth Community Arts Center and the person(s) named on this document. Acceptance of this contract is a specific acceptance of the terms listed. Objects exhibited in the FWCAC will be given great care. Unless the artist wishes to provide his/her own insurance coverage, the FWCAC will insure all exhibitions under its existing insurance policy, which covers up to $500,000, against all risks of physical loss or damage while on the premises during the period of the exhibition. If the exhibitor(s) wish to provide his/her own insurance, such actions constitute the release of the FWCAC from any liability in connection with the exhibition. Coverage is not authorized past the exhibition and artwork may not be stored at the FWCAC unless prior arrangements have been made. The FWCAC allows visitors to photograph works of art. Artists are required to contribute 25% from work sold in the exhibition. By submitting your artwork, you are agreeing to the terms above.

TRAHCs 29th Annual Juried Exhibition is a juried exhibition celebrating local, regional, and national artists. The competition is hosted by the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council, an arts council located in Texarkana, Texas, and generously sponsored by E-Z Mart, Inc. $3750 in prizes!
The exhibition is open to all artists 18 years and older currently residing in the U.S. All work must be original in concept and not copied from another artist’s work. No photography, video, film, jewelry, installations or artwork that requires special installation or assembly will be accepted. Entries must be received by Midnight MST May 14, 2017. Only entries submitted online through Callforentry.org will be considered. Entries are limited to a maximum of three works executed in the last two years (May 2015 – May 2017.) A maximum of two pieces of artwork per artist can be juried into the exhibit. Accepted work will be exhibited at TRAHC from July 14 – August 12, 2017.

Lauren Cross, PhD, MFA

Adjunct Professor and Interdisciplinary Art and Design Studies Lecturer at University of North Texas, Denton, TX
Lauren Cross is an artist, curator, and scholar living in Fort Worth, Texas. She earned her BA in Art, Design, and Media from Richmond, The American International University in London, England, MFA in Visual Arts from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA, and PhD from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX. Her artistic work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally and she frequently facilitates curatorial and art projects both in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and beyond.

Cross is the Founder/Curator of non-profit arts organization in Fort Worth, WoCA Projects, and has received many awards for her creative work, including an official selection for the 2010 International Black Women’s Film Festival in Berkeley, CA for her first documentary, The Skin Quilt Project; The Fort Worth Weekly’s Third Annual Visionary Award in 2013; named #32 of 100 Top Dallas Creatives by the Dallas Observer in 2014-2015, and featured in the 2015 Edinburgh Art Festival. She is a Lecturer in the Department of Art Education + Art History at the University of North Texas’ College of Visual Arts & Design (CVAD) where she serves as a core faculty member for the Interdisciplinary Art and Design Studies program.

FEES
$35 flat fee for up to three entries. All fees are non-refundable and payable through Callforentry.org. Entry fees may be paid by credit card only.

JUDGING
Judging occurs in two phases. The initial judging will take place from

May 15 – 21, 2017. During this time, the juror will select the artwork to be accepted into the exhibit. After all accepted artwork has arrived, the juror will view the exhibit in person to select the award-winning artwork. Winners will be announced at the opening reception, Friday, July 14, 2017.

NOTIFICATION
Results of the first phase of judging will be emailed on May 22, 2017.

All notifications will be sent by email through Callforentry.org. These emails occasionally end up in one’s spam/junk box. Please add the Callforentry.org email address to your address book.

ACCEPTED WORK
Accepted artists will receive instructions for shipping and hand delivery. Shipping costs and insurance are the responsibility of the artist. All entries will be handled with reasonable care, but neither TRAHC nor its representatives will be responsible for loss or damage.

Reusable shipping containers only. TRAHC encourages artists to insure their artwork when shipping. No glass allowed, unless for pastel work (at the artist’s own risk.) Plexiglas only.

No packing peanuts allowed. Any shipped artwork found with packing peanuts will not be unpacked, displayed, or eligible for an award.

Shipping via FedEx or UPS is mandatory. Any artwork arriving through USPS will be held until a pre-paid return-shipping label from FedEx or UPS is provided. All shipped artwork must include a pre-paid return-shipping label from either FedEx or UPS.

Artists may hand-deliver accepted artwork during TRAHC’s open hours Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m.

All accepted artwork is due by Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 3:45 p.m.

SPECIFICATIONS
All works accepted for the exhibition must be original, completed, and ready to hang. Substitutions of accepted works will not be allowed and all delivered work must match the image juried.
Frames, mats, and wiring must be professional quality and in good condition. No chrome frames. Wiring must be in good condition and substantial enough for the weight of the artwork. All paintings must be framed or gallery wrapped with fully painted edges. Two-dimensional works on paper must be framed and under Plexiglas, unless artwork medium is pastel. Artwork using pastel may be framed and under glass (at the artist’s own risk.) All freestanding sculptures must have felt pads attached to the bottom.
Accepted artwork may not be removed from TRAHC prior to August 15, 2017.

SALES
Any artwork sold to the public will incur a 20% commission. Prices quoted on the entry form may not be changed after acceptance. Please contact Amy Donohoe at 903-792-8681 for pricing related issues.

No purchased work may be removed from TRAHC until the close of the exhibition.

Artwork that is “Not for Sale” – Please add NFS to the description box of the artwork in question.

Artwork listed as “Purchase upon Request” will not be accommodated and will be listed as “Not for Sale.”

LIABILITY
Works are entered at the artist’s own risk. Artwork will be handled with reasonable care. TRAHC and its representatives will not be responsible for loss, theft, or damage of artworks while in the gallery’s possession or in transit. TRAHC encourages artists to insure their artwork when shipping.

REPRODUCTION
TRAHC reserves the right to photograph or use any of the works for publicity purposes. Images of accepted entries will become the property of TRAHC to be used for the catalogue and other printed materials, archives, website, and for educational purposes. All copyrights for the artwork are retained by the artist. The artist waives any claim, including any claim for invasion of the right of privacy of copyright, against TRAHC, its directors, employees, and volunteers.

AGREEMENT
The submission of entries to this competition shall be understood to constitute an agreement on the part of the artist to all rules and conditions as set forth in this prospectus. Entries not meeting the criteria listed herein will be disqualified, and the entry fee will not be refunded. TRAHC is a family-oriented arts council and reserves the right to not display excessive nudity or offensive subject matter. This is at the discretion of the Executive Director of TRAHC.

PICK UP
Due to TRAHC’s extremely limited storage space, artwork left more than 30 days after August 15, 2017 (September 15, 2017) will be deemed the property of TRAHC unless arrangements have been made in writing and agreed up on by both parties. Any artwork that arrived through USPS will be held until a pre-paid return-shipping label from FedEx or UPS is provided.

ENTRY PROCEDURE – ONLINE ONLY
All submissions will be through Callforentry.org (www.callforentry.org). Entries and credit card payment must be submitted on or before May 14, 2017, with no entries accepted after this date.

Upload requirements for image files:

  • File format: JPEG only
  • File dimensions: No smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side
  • File resolution: 72 ppi/dpi (standard web resolution)
  • File size: 3 MB maximum
  • Image must be correctly oriented (vertical or horizontal)
  • No digital enhancement is allowed
  • Maximum of 3 photos per entry

Artists within driving distance of Texarkana may book an appointment with Amy Donohoe to help them photograph and upload their entry to Callforentry.org. All assistance will take place during business hours at the Regional Arts Center. No appointments may be made after Friday, May 12, 2017.

Calling all artists! Calling all artists!   The Weatherford Chamber Tourism committee will be hosting the 3rd Annual “Art in Action” art show at the Weatherford Farmer’s Market on Saturday, March 17, 2017 from 11:00-4:00.

This art show is a little unique as you get to watch the artist create their works of art! The public is invited to come and witness as these masterpieces are being created. Artists are allowed to sell their work at the show. We ask that the artists also display several pieces of their finished art so attendees have the opportunity to purchase and see other creations from these local artists.

There is also be a children’s area to help encourage our future artist that are inspired by watching the featured artist. T-shirts will be available for purchase so the aspiring artist can decorate at have as a keepsake. There will also be an easel for those artists that wish to draw. Jessica Pelletier will be doing face painting.

There are 3 categories: 1) Competition, 2) Participation and 3) Student. Prizes will be awarded. The application can be found on the home screen of the chamber website, www.weatherford-chamber.com.   Space is limited so sign up quick!!!

29th Annual Materials: Hard & Soft National Contemporary Craft Competition & Exhibition deadline Sept. 4

The Greater Denton Arts Council announces the opening of its 2016 Call for Entries for the 29th annual Materials: Hard & Soft National Contemporary Craft Competition and Exhibition. Recognized as one of the premier craft exhibitions in the country, Materials: Hard & Soft began in 1987 and was originally initiated by area artist Georgia Leach Gough.

The exhibition celebrates the evolving field of contemporary craft and the remarkable creativity and innovation of artists who push the boundaries of their chosen media. Drawing hundreds of applications from across the United States each year, approximately 70 works will be selected for exhibition by our 2016 Juror, Elizabeth Kozlowski.

As the curator of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Kozlowski has over 12 years of curatorial and gallery experience with a specialty in contemporary ceramics. Of the works selected, Juror Awards in the amounts of $1,000, $750, $500 and $250 will be presented.
