Heritage’s February Fine & Decorative Art Auction Reaches Almost $2 Million

Chinese carved coral, Tiffany lamp, Lapini marble, works by Dali, Mapplethorpe top expansive list of decorative pieces

DALLAS, Texas (March 2, 2017) – The Fine & Decorative Art Signature Auction held this past weekend by Dallas-based Heritage Auctions boasted a wide variety of pieces and generated nearly $2 million in sales concludingTuesday with a total price realized of $1,872,215. Fresh-to-market pieces from renowned collectors, as well as work from artists around the world, were available without reserve.

“We were pleased to see robust interest from more than 1,700+ bidders, culminating in strong results for both Fine Arts and the Decorative Arts,” said Karen Rigdon, Director of Silver and Decorative Arts at Heritage Auctions.

Two spectacular large Chinese carved coral groups finished in the top three for lots sold. The top lot was a Large Chinese Carved Coral Group with Avian Motifs on Carved Wood Stand (pictured), which sold for $35,000, and an equally impressive Chinese Carved Coral Figurai Group of Eight Immortals, which reached $25,000. The massive pieces dramatically outdistanced their respective pre-auction estimates.

An exquisite Cesare Lapini marble statuette entitled L’Amore degli Angeli from a Dallas, TX collection sold for $30,000. The piece which stands 31-1/2 inches tall, was inscribed Galleria Lapini/Firenzi on the base and tripled its pre-sale auction estimate.

A beautiful Tiffany Studios table lamp, descended from the family of Major General John Porter Lucas, who led U.S. forces in WWI and WWII, and was made available at auction for the first time, garnering $17,500.
