Tina Bohlman Design & Composition Workshop April 5 – 7

3-day “Design & Composition” Workshop

Thursday, April 5 – Saturday, April 7, 2018

$225 for 3 days – $75 deposit required (nonrefundable) Pay by check or PayPal.

Jaycee Park Center for the Arts, 1975 Puritan, Irving TX

Sponsored by the Irving Art Association. Workshop chair: Jane Kahler janekahlerart@gmail.com

Students should be knowledgeable in their medium, have had some previous painting experience and be familiar with setting up and using their equipment.  Demonstrations will be in watercolor and oil, but painters may work in any medium.

This is not a “how to paint” workshop; it is assumed you already know how to mix and apply paint!  We will instead address challenges painters encounter with emphasis on:

  • Subject Matter Selection (do you relate? is it within your skill set?)
  • Composition (organization of elements)
  • Design (Every mark matters!)
  • Simplification (editing out detail)
  • Massing (seeing elements as a “whole”)

Workshop offers daily lecture & demo with plenty of opportunity for notes, questions, individual easel-side assistance.

A native Texan, Tina Bohlman has used the state in which she was raised as both the inspiration and the canvas for her art.  Mostly a self-taught artist, Bohlman works in both watercolor and oil medium to capture “the moment” in her plein air paintings and brilliant rural landscapes.

She prefers plein air rather than working in the studio and is a veteran of numerous competition plein air and “quick draw” events including, Plein Air Southwest–Outdoor Painters Society, Sedona Plein Air Festival-Sedona, Arizona, Paint The Parks-Estes Park, Colorado, and  Plein Air Easton, Easton, Maryland.

Over the past 40 years, Bohlman has made quite an impact in her field and has earned more than 60 awards, including a dozen First Place and four Best in Show titles.  Her work is collected worldwide; Bohlman originals hang in private and corporate collections in 38 States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, Portugal, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and Republic of Benin, West Africa.

Memberships: Master Signature-Outdoor Painters Society; Signature-Women Artists of the West; Master Signature-Artists Of Texas; Signature-Contemporary Fine Art International;  Signature-International Plein Air Painters;  Associate With Distinction-American Women Artists;  Associate, Southwest Watercolor Society;  Associate-American Watercolor Society, Associate, Oil Painters of America, Associate-American Impressionist Society.
