TAA’s new website; free sites for art groups

Texas Area Artists (TAA) now have a new website: texasareaartists.blogspot.com. Their new contact email is texasareaartists@gmail.com. TAA serves the artist community in Mesquite with monthly meetings and paint-ins at the Mesquite Arts Center. Currently their annual award show “Pigments of the Imagination” is on exhibit there through Apr. 1. For more info about TAA, contact president Judy Emig at 214-566-8269.

Blogger.com and Blogspot.com offer free “blogs” or weblogs that make outstanding sites for struggling art groups. The main part of a blog is the announcements or postings section, which can be used to communicate the monthly news of an art group. The interface for posting news is much like an email composer, so a relative newbie can feel comfortable with this. The latest announcement will have the top spot and older news will eventually be moved to the archives. Other sections of the blog page can be used for more permanent information about the group, such as contact information, location, calendar, etc. Images such as jpegs or gifs can also be posted. There is a choice of templates for the appearance of the blog, and a custom logo can be added.

TAA’s new blog was set up by ArtGroupsDFW moderator Sharon Giles. She offers free assistance in setting up a blog to local artist groups. (The responsibility for posting news and images will belong to the officers of the art group.) To contact her, use the Contact button at the top of the Art News DFW page.
