Walk the Light Announces New Program for Women Artist Entrepreneurs: VARENPORT
DALLAS ORGANIZATION DEBUTS FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND ART ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM
The Varenport membership program supports the entrepreneurship of women artists by providing a free, professional co-working environment that offers much needed moral support, networking opportunities, continuing education, and mentorship resources.
“We’re thrilled to be launching this program for women,” said WTL’s Founder, Laura Allen Golatt. “This initiative embodies our mission of making the arts a vehicle for change by expanding opportunity for women artist entrepreneurs within the city of Dallas, which we hope will be an empowering source for all women everywhere and rise the tide for all ships.”
The membership program awards fully sponsored residencies to Dallas-based women artist entrepreneurs. Residencies of six months include studio space, meeting rooms, high-speed internet, continuing education programming, and various other community amenities valuing over $10,000.00 per artist. Much more than a typical residency, members can enjoy the dynamics of a co-working environment by becoming a family with an artist community that leads to the development of collaborative relationships.
Varenport is proud to partner with local business experts like Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts (TALA) and Staff Retreat Co. to provide workshops and clinics for continuing education related to entrepreneurial and business startup needs like accounting, legal structuring, vision casting, and marketing which help the artists successfully launch their businesses or organizations. The first workshop will be presented on September 12, 2015 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at their location, 211 N. Ervay St., 8th floor, Dallas, TX 75201. Artists selected for this program are career-ready and need a short duration of incubation. Applicants must be artists, arts entrepreneurs, makers, creatives, or arts collectives working together on establishing a company, professional group, partnership, or non-profit organization for the purpose of promoting the arts. Applicants must also be women, but other identifiers such as race, religion, age, orientation, or any other demographic factors will never prohibit or exclude a person from being considered as a member.
There are two programming sessions each year with two application periods. The application for the spring session is currently open. For more information on the program, please visit: http://www.varenport.com
