Name of Call: FY2018 Call for Public Art Qualifications: Public Artists, San Antonio, Texas

The City of San Antonio seeks professional qualifications from area, state, and national artists for potential public art projects. The FY2018 Pre-Qualified List is used to select public artists for upcoming commission opportunities to create new public artworks in conjunction with City-funded and bond-funded capital improvements.

To better diversify our pre-qualified list and select artists with a wide range of qualifications, applicants are encouraged to complete the optional demographic questionnaire section of the application.

Once approved by City Council, all pre-qualified artists remain eligible for contract opportunities over a two-year period. Artists who were approved in FY2017 need not apply.

Those who previously applied to this call and were not selected are encouraged to update their previous applications and reapply.

Public Art Mentorship Course: Cultivating area artists’ participation in the City’s pre-qualified list is critical to the success of public art in San Antonio. Therefore, Public Art San Antonio (PASA) will select applicants from the San Antonio area to participate in a Public Art Mentorship Course. The course will be led by experienced artists and administrators to advance the applicants’ professional public art development. Artists must attend two Saturday sessions (Sep. 9 and Sep. 23, 2017) and complete an interim assignment. Completion of the course will result in two year pre-qualification. This is a one-time opportunity.

The City of San Antonio seeks professional qualifications from individuals or firms that provide a combination of creative and technical services that can support art in public spaces and project delivery. Qualified candidates are required to demonstrate successful experience and technical expertise in providing support services related to art in the public realm.

To better diversify our pre-qualified list and to facilitate the selection of artists with a wide range of qualifications, applicants are encouraged to complete the optional demographic questionnaire section of the application.

The FY2018 Pre-Qualified List is used to select individuals and business to provide on-call services including, but not limited to consulting, curating, writing, project management, art history, art handling and shipping, art appraising, restoring and conserving art, art fabrication, photo and video documentation, graphic and web-based design, and technical design.

Once approved by the City Council, all pre-qualified individuals or businesses remain eligible for contract opportunities over a two-year period. Individuals or businesses who were approved in the FY2017 Call for Public Art Qualifications need not apply.

The City of San Antonio seeks creative non-profit arts organizations with public art experience to submit qualifications to collaborate in the creation art in public places throughout the City. The FY2018 Pre-Qualified List is used as opportunities arise to collaborate on permanent, temporary, or event based public art projects.

Once selected, Collaborative Partners will be engaged to develop and implement projects, community engagement initiatives, and public art residencies based on scope of work and available funding and will remain eligible for contract opportunities over a two-year period. Collaborative Partners who were approved in FY2017 need not apply.

REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS: Indoor Mural Commission in Conroe, TX for The Kroger Co. Houston Arts Alliance on behalf of The Kroger Co.

Deadline: Sunday, August 20, 2017, 11:59 p.m. (CST) Artist Commission: $8,000 Eligibility: Open to all artists in the Greater Houston area. Priority is given to artists with a connection to the community in which the store resides. Entry Fee: Free

Project Location: Kroger Store #136 at SW corner of 336 S & I-45, Conroe, TX 77304

PLEASE NOTE: Additional open calls will be made for approximately two (2) more murals (to be placed in the Greater Houston area) for completion in 2018.

Houston Arts Alliance (HAA), on behalf of The Kroger Company (Client), seeks local artists interested in creating large-scale indoor murals. Selected artworks will have high visibility, be prominently displayed within Kroger stores, and use local references to evoke a creative, uplifting feeling that 1) encourages community and 2) celebrates the spirit of the neighborhood. There is no application fee to enter. Three (3) finalists will be chosen based on their work examples—and their connection to the community in which the store resides—as well as receive a $300 stipend for submitting a proposal. One of the finalists submitting a proposal (Artist) will be chosen to create an artwork for each location. Payment to each selected Artist is $8,000.


Name of Call: Dove Springs Recreation Center, Austin, TX

The City of Austin Art in Public Places (AIPP) program of the Cultural Arts Division, Economic Development Department (EDD) seeks to commission a professional visual artist, or artist team, to design and fabricate artwork for the Dove Springs Recreation Center at 5801 Ainez Drive Austin, TX 78744.

The City of Austin requests qualifications from professional visual artists, or artist teams, who live and work in Williamson, Travis, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Burnet and Blanco counties. No artist currently under contract with the City of Austin Art in Public Places Program at the time of application deadline is eligible to apply.


Name of Call: Cedar Park- Public Safety Art Project

The City’s Parks Arts and Community Enrichment (PACE) Board seeks to commission artwork to be installed outside of the City’s Police Department/Court Building. The building is currently undergoing an expansion and the Board wishes to unveil the new artwork when the building is completed in late summer 2018.

The design proposals should: • Honor both the Cedar Park Police Department and the Cedar Park Fire Department. • Contain an element that serves as a memorial for two police officers killed in the line of duty. • Contain a seating element where members of the public may sit and reflect. • Complement the building architecture and the overall aesthetic of the site. • Utilize durable materials that will be suitable for continuous outdoor display. • Have budgets which include all artwork, art installation, delivery, site preparation, any necessary sculpture bases, and should not exceed $74,000.


Name of Call: Art in the Atrium 15 – FRISCO, TX

The City of Frisco seeks original, 2-Dimensional artworks by artists from Frisco and the surrounding area for the 15th installment of Art in the Atrium. Art in the Atrium 15 will showcase artistic excellence in the region, encourage public dialogue, understanding and enjoyment of visual art, and promote the City’s cultural and economic initiatives.

Art in the Atrium 15 is scheduled for Monday, October 9, 2017 through Friday, March 9, 2018.
