The City of Frisco, Texas Public Art Program is issuing this Request for Qualifications for a public art opportunity at The Grove at Frisco Commons. Budget: $84,500.00
The Grove at Frisco Commons – an active adult center opening in early 2019 – will add a new social and educational destination to the already popular park. With a primary goal of serving adults 50 and over, this 30,000+ square-foot facility will include a diverse array of multi-use spaces for activities of all kinds including learning opportunities, fitness and games. Additionally, The Grove at Frisco Commons will serve as a meeting and special event space for the citizens of Frisco and beyond.
The name ‘The Grove’ was inspired by an existing grove of trees at the park and the desire to emphasize the importance of natural forms and themes for the development. The public art project will be located in an exterior courtyard with the many glass walls of the building on one side and the green spaces of the park on the other, accessible to audiences of all ages. The highly visible artwork will be displayed in an elevated planting bed, surrounded by landscaping and built-in benches.

The Las Artistas Art & Fine Craft Show, now in its 48th year, is a popular pre-Thanksgiving event, attracting an upscale audience of arts and crafts collectors and enthusiasts from El Paso, TX, Las Cruces, NM, and beyond. This small, artist-produced show is strictly juried, catering to affluent and savvy buyers. Booth fees are very reasonable and include electricity, reported art and fine craft sales are consistently strong, and the event has a friendly, easy going atmosphere. All booths will be located INSIDE and will be 10×10 or 10×15! To attract even more buyers, the show will feature art and craft demonstrations, live music, and creative cuisine from food trucks.
Las Artistas is working with a professional marketing agency with arts and crafts event expertise to promote the show and is updating its website to provide exhibitors with additional exposure. El Paso is known as a community that supports, promotes and funds the arts. In fact, our extensive advertising budget is funded in part by the Texas State Commission on the Arts and the City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department.
This year, we are having a new section that we are calling Next Generation. This section of artists will be composed by local children under the age of 18. They will have a table displaying their pieces. This is part of an effort to build the art community in the area.
