Chalk Alley call for artists + free workshop March 11 & 12

The Taste of Dallas is marking their 30th year and would like to celebrate with Art. So, we are putting together a street painting portion to their event and we are looking for 30 local artists to create spectacular soft pastel creations on asphalt. ‘Chalk Alley’ will pay homage to the 500 year old tradition of street painting. What started as a folk art form has turned into a worldwide phenomenon with festivals all over the globe and artist becoming world famous for their stunning illusions.

We would love to invite any Dallas / Fort Worth artists to participate in our inspiring event on June 4th & 5th at Fair Park. It’s a great way to network with other artists, art fans, and collectors. We provide free advertising of each participant on Taste of Dallas website and during the festival, All supplies and Food are provided during the June 4th and 5th event and the pay is $100. Each artist must create an 8×10 foot soft pastel painting on asphalt over the two days. It’s great fun.

Melanie Stimmell Van Latum will be hosting free workshops on March 11th or 12th for any and all artists to come and see what the street painting event is all about.  She will be giving a hands on demo as well as tips and techniques.  Artists will have a chance to practice with the materials and ask any questions they may have about the process or event.  Contact her at or 213-293-8344. The workshop is being held at 2528 Elm St, Dallas, TX 75226. Workshop brochure: ChalkAlleyWorkshop
