An experiment

20 poets. 20 artists. How does a painter interpret verse? Each piece in this show is a never seen before collaboration between a Dallas poet and painter. None of the collaborators know who they are working with until the work is hung on the walls. This is all new territory for artlove and a very exciting show. The live celebration on the 18th is only $2 to attend. 

Poets include: Maggie Smith, Jay Eisler, Darryl Ratcliff, Will Richey, Michael Lagocki, Bri Hudson, Gary Brown, Hammer, Konichiwa Zach and many more. We'll go over various collage techniques, use new and recycled elements to create tags and a paper bag portfolio. These little books can become anything you wish to store your memories in with lots of pockets.

Elements of design will be covered to help with successful collage decisions.

This is one CSN you might want to bring some recycled items to use in your final artwork. For example, strips of fabric, bottle caps, photos, paper, yarn, and anything you think you might want to try out in a collage to make it personal.

Remember, at CSN we bring all the materials for your use. Bringing supplies is optional.

The annual affair takes place amidst bold artworks of hot new Texas, national and international artists; a video room showing vignettes of the awardee by producer Quin Mathews; and chef-inspired hors- d’oeuvres with wine and specialty drinks.

TEDxSMU is partnering with SculptCAD on the Dallas premier of the SculptCAD Rapid Artists sculpture exhibition. Twelve Dallas artists have diverged from their typical mediums to explore the boundaries between sculpture and the high tech world of 3D computer modeling. On display will be their final creations, each sculpture having been created and produced using ground-breaking 3D printing processes in materials ranging from bronze to plastic. 

The exhibit will open at One Arts Plaza with an evening event co-produced by TEDxSMU and SculptCAD. Please join us for the exhibit and a TEDxSMU Salon with Nancy Hairston and a panel of artists involved in the SCRA project. Afterwards the artists will be available for one-on-one discussions about their sculptures, inspiration and the experience of working with 3D modeling technology.

Artist’s Statement:

Each day when making decisions we look to the past and our current situations to create the present, part of the past is brought forward, part of it left behind. The juxtaposition of the past: historical, certain,  and the present: new, random, evolving,  fluctuating… these are the contrasts with which I enjoy working.

The materials come from many sources: friends, relatives, collections, walks, discards, the street, nature, and traditional art materials as well. These materials include paper, pencil, crayons, pastes, paints,  and most recently bee’s wax.

A favorite quotation of mine is simply part of a sentence from an Isaac Bashevis Singer novel, “...the patterns of continuous creation”. I attempt to interpret my constants and my changes as I proceed through time.

ELIGIBILITY: All persons in the North Texas area are eligible to enter original works of art regardless of age or experience.
Entries are limited to two works of art per individual. 
Artwork must not exceed 36 inches in any direction, including framing.
All media in 2D or 3D is acceptable; however we do not have the facility to display jewelry or installations.
2D work must be suitably framed and have wire attached to the back ready for hanging. Saw tooth hangers, string or Velcro tape will not be accepted. Unframed work may not be tacked to walls. Work may be framed under glass or Plexiglas.
Original video may be displayed if artist supplies all equipment including power cords. Total size of equipment excluding stand must not exceed 36 inches.

ENTRY FEE: $5 for one, $10 for two (Cash or check payable to the Arlington Museum of Art)

The Art Showcase is not a juried exhibit. All work which adheres to AMA policies willhang in the exhibit.

SALES: Artwork may be listed for sale. Purchase transactions will be handled between the artist and buyer. Artists will agree to a 20% donation of the sales price to the Arlington Museum of Art to support continuing exhibitions.

The Artist Showcase is your opportunity to celebrate the vitality of visual art in Arlington. You are invited to participate in this annual event to display one or two of your artistic creations in the Arlington Museum of Art during the month of October. This is not a juried exhibition so all artwork which meets our eligibility criteria will be included in the show. Deadline for entries is September 25! The 12th Annual HandleyFEST is a free community event that features live music, four entertainment stages, a juried art show, chili cook-off, classic car show, kid’s zone and city safety fair. There are many fun activities and interactive displays for kids and their families. We expect more than 50,000 to attend the 2010 festival. HandleyFEST takes place in the Urban Village of Handley located in East Fort Worth and is designed to attract a variety of quality artisans. The local galleries will increase their participation in the 2010 event as we take this one-day festival to the next level! 

HandleyFest operates under The Historic Handley Development Corporation charter, recognized by the IRS and State of Texas as a tax exempt organization under IRS Code section 501(c)(3). All proceeds are used to produce HandleyFEST and to support other artistic, preservation, and community education non-profit activities in Fort Worth.
