Encaustic Workshop for Beginners and Former Participants 

August 25, 2012  12noon – 4pm

Fee: $65.00 Adults only Class is limited to 10 students.

This introductory, workshop in encaustic painting will teach participants to paint in the ancient, non-toxic medium of beeswax-based paint. Each workshop takes place at Irving Arts Association and features basic core information, including the history of encaustic, health and safety, and the fundamentals techniques of painting and fusing. The workshop will cover the following painting techniques: how to create depth and transparency, texture or ultra-smooth surfaces, transfer of drawings or Xerox®, stencils, and collage. Also an Introduction to the Hot Box and creating Encaustic Monotypes.

Workshop Provides :

• Paint, medium, wax, brushes
• The use of all equipment including: Tools, hot palettes, heat guns, irons
• Printed technical data sheets
• Some paper for monotypes – extra paper can be purchased at the workshop

Student’s supplies to bring:

• Rigid surface (ampersand boards 12”x 12”, Masonite or other hard surfaces)
• (Sketchbook for notes.
• Collage materials: Xerox® prints, pieces of handmade papers, thread, small 3-D objects to mbed.
• Charcoal (soft)
• Oil pastels (sennelier are recommended)
• A roll of paper towels (Viva)
• Painting clothes or apron.
• Small jar of linseed oil

Instructor Junanne Peck is an interdisciplinary artist, with printmaking, painting and encaustics as her main art forms. She is a seasoned educator and Teaching Artist in the DFW area.
