Special Event: Artist Reception and Show
When: Saturday, August 4, 2012 - 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Featured Artist: Vicki Smith
Vicki Sowell Smith is a native Dallasite and has been painting for over 30 years. Taking classes in painting, drawing, and design, Smith began oil painting in 2008 finding a medium that gave energy to her passion of creating art. She has studied with Sue Alston, watercolorist, Suzanne Kelly Clark, SMU teacher (plein air painting) and took her first oil classes with Bob Bates. She is now working with Chris Middlebrook Wyatt. Always looking for and finding an unusual approach, her paintings show a flair for fun and color… especially the neon zebras!
She is a featured artist in the 2012 edition of CityArtCal Fine Art in Dallas and exhibited in the Garden Gallery from March 9-25th 2012. Her art is part of numerous private collections and has been commissioned by many art patrons and collectors.

Artist Statement
“The oil painting unleashed a new passion for painting”, Smith said. “It seemed to bring together all the numerous experiences, lessons, and ideas I have been working on for many years. Taking what I have learned from my head and then translating it to my hand and on to the canvas is a tricky process. Then adding in what’s in my heart to create something unique and fun takes time.” “I enjoy finding a scene and then capturing it with a photo or working several pictures together. It gives me time to work on the composition and also keep the light the way I like it.”
