The City of Denton Public Art Committee and The Greater Denton Arts Council present Passion, Art, Community: Denton, Texas, in Word and Image.

In 2011, the Public Art Committee commissioned Texas Poet Laureate karla k. morton to write 25 poems about the history of Denton. The Committee then commissioned artists from the Denton community to create works of art inspired by karla’s poems.

The result is a stunning exhibition and book – Passion, Art, Community: Denton, Texas, in Word and Image.

The exhibition, on display in the Meadows Gallery at the Center for the Visual Arts, features original works of art. The works include paintings, photographs, and collages. Each piece is accompanied by the poem that inspired it.

The opening reception on August 30, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. will also include a book signing by karla k. morton and the artists. Books will be available for purchase at the reception.

The Center for the Visual Arts is located at 400 E. Hickory Street, Denton, Texas, 76201.
