The Catholic Foundation announced a call for submissions to the Seventh Annual Catholic Foundation Plaza Artists Competition. The Foundation is accepting work from professional artists throughout Texas now through Friday, August 24, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.
The winning artist will receive a $2,500 stipend and will have his or her work featured for one year as a larger-than-life mural in the Catholic Foundation Plaza, located in the heart of the Dallas Arts District. Honorable mentions will receive $250 each.
“Over the past seven years, it has been a privilege to facilitate this competition of talented Texas professional artists and enjoy the beautiful winning pieces on display here in Dallas,” said Edwin M. Schaffler, President and CEO of The Catholic Foundation. “We encourage all professional artists to consider submission in The Catholic Foundation Plaza Artists Competition in 2012 for a chance to display your work to the thousands of visitors that pass through the Dallas Arts District each year.”
The Catholic Foundation Plaza is a 3,900-square-foot public space on the grounds of the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe, across the street from the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. The Plaza is surrounded by the buildings of Pritzker Prize-winning architects, as well as renowned museums including the Nasher Sculpture Center and the Dallas Museum of Art. A favorite among locals and tourists, The Catholic Foundation Plaza and winning artwork are also featured in the Business Council for the Arts’ Public ArtWalk Dallas. Dedicated in 2006, the Plaza was a gift from The Catholic Foundation to the Dallas community to commemorate the Foundation’s 50th anniversary. The winning artwork will be displayed on the Plaza’s 28-foot-long by 9-foot-wide art wall, which currently displays last year’s winning piece, “Dallas in Wonderland,” by Rebecca Guy.
