DALLAS –The Bath House Cultural Center presents Fictional 3, an exhibition featuring mixed media artwork by forty local and regional artists, July 7-August 4, 2012. An opening reception with the artists will be held on Saturday, July 7, from 7 to 9 PM. Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public.

Fictional 3 is a synergistic collaboration between the Bath House gallery and the 14th Annual Festival of Independent Theatres (FIT). In the same spirit as FIT, which strives to celebrate the talent of local independent theatre companies, the exhibition also has as its main goal to provide a showcase for the innovative, transcendent, and thriving art created by local and regional visual artists.

Fictional 3 features artistic interpretations of the plots from the eight short plays that are being presented as part of this year’s FIT festival. The visual artists were not given a detailed description of the plays when they were asked to create their artwork; rather, they received a list of short phrases or blurbs about the general plot of the theatrical productions, and were asked to come up with their own interpretation of the overall theme of the plays. Because the artists had no thorough knowledge of the literary content of the plays, they ended up creating very personal, unique, and independent interpretations of the themes. The related, yet independent nature of the Fictional 3 exhibition both complements and enhances the FIT festival experience.

The participating artists are Juan Aguirre, Amelia Anthony, Rebecca Alexander, Elizabeth Bingham, Debbie Buie, Angel Cabrales, Lisa Cannon, Carleen Clements Smyser, J R Compton, Steve Danner, Lupita Diaz, Christa Diepenbrock, Cuyler Etheredge, Jacque Forsher, Angela Gallia, María Teresa García Pedroche, Sarah Jane Harbison, Sherry Houpt, Myresa “Mitza” Hurst, Mark King, Rosie Lindsey, Rachel E.
